The Bristol site’s focus on GMP small molecules adds to this portfolio, extending the company’s capacity to supply materials used in the development and production of advanced therapies.

UK—Bio-Techne Corporation has opened a 10,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Bristol, UK, to supply good manufacturing practice (GMP) grade small molecules for developers of cell therapies.
The fully operational site expands the company’s production capacity and supports efforts to improve manufacturing consistency as advanced therapies progress towards commercialization.
The purpose-built facility will supply materials used in cell therapy development and manufacturing worldwide.
It features two International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Class 7 cleanrooms and five ISO Class 8 multifunctional cleanrooms designed for GMP small molecule production and material handling.
The investment addresses several challenges facing advanced therapy developers, particularly the need to standardise manufacturing processes, minimise batch variability and increase production volumes without compromising quality.
As cell therapies move from early research into clinical development and commercial production, manufacturers must establish reliable processes that can meet increasingly demanding quality and regulatory requirements.
Expanding manufacturing capacity for cell therapies
Bio-Techne president and chief executive officer Kim Kelderman said the new facility reflects the cell therapy industry’s changing needs, where consistent manufacturing and the ability to scale production are becoming increasingly important.
“Our investment in Bristol demonstrates Bio-Techne’s commitment to providing customers with the GMP materials, manufacturing expertise, and supply chain reliability needed to accelerate development and ultimately bring transformative therapies to patients worldwide,” Kelderman said.
Manufacturing capacity remains a key consideration for companies developing advanced therapies.
Processes that work at research scale may require substantial refinement before they can support larger production volumes.
Batch-to-batch differences can also affect product quality, making process control and reproducibility essential as therapies advance through development.
By supplying GMP-grade small molecules from a dedicated manufacturing site, Bio-Techne aims to help developers establish more consistent production workflows.
Access to these materials can support process development and reduce operational challenges in preparing therapies for clinical and commercial use.
The Bristol facility also strengthens Bio-Techne’s manufacturing footprint across the UK and the US.
In the US, the company operates recombinant protein production in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and maintains GMP facilities in St. Paul.
Supporting an integrated cell therapy workflow
Bio-Techne provides products and services across several stages of cell therapy development.
Through its collaboration with Wilson Wolf Corporation, the developer of the G-Rex cell culture platform, the company offers analytical solutions, custom manufacturing services, GMP cell culture media, proteins, small molecules and process development support.
This combination of materials and technical services lets developers access multiple components of their manufacturing workflows from a single supplier.
For companies advancing complex biological products, coordinated access to specialised materials and manufacturing expertise can help address supply chain requirements and support process standardisation.
The Bristol site’s focus on GMP small molecules adds to this portfolio, extending the company’s capacity to supply materials used in the development and production of advanced therapies.
Bio-Techne’s global operations
Headquartered in Minnesota, Bio-Techne operates across 34 locations worldwide and employs more than 3,000 people.
The company reported net sales of more than US$1.2 billion in fiscal year 2025.
Its customers include biopharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, academic researchers and clinical diagnostic laboratories.
Across its three commercial divisions, Bio-Techne Diagnostics, Bio-Techne Spatial and R&D Systems, the company supplies more than 500,000 products for research, diagnostics and biopharmaceutical development.
