Moscow’s Center for Diagnostics and Telemedicine slashes radiology report times by 23%

The Moscow-based institution said the improvements are part of a broader effort to modernize radiology workflows and reduce administrative burdens on clinicians.

RUSSIA—The Center for Diagnostics and Telemedicine has upgraded radiologists’ automated workstations to help doctors manage rising patient volumes while shortening report turnaround times and maintaining diagnostic quality.

The Moscow-based institution said the improvements are part of a broader effort to modernize radiology workflows and reduce administrative burdens on clinicians.

As imaging demand continues to grow, healthcare providers are under pressure to deliver faster results without compromising accuracy.

In-house software upgrade improves workflow

In 2025, the Center moved to internally developed software and introduced an updated workstation interface designed specifically for radiologists.

The transition gave the organization greater flexibility to refine tools based on clinical needs and user feedback.

One of the first major changes was the launch of a structured reporting template for chest X-ray (CXR) examinations.

Developed together with the Department of Information Technology, the new format standardizes how radiologists document findings and speeds up the reporting process.

According to the Center, the average time needed to complete a chest X-ray report has already fallen by 23% since the template was introduced.

Yuri Vasiliev, Chief Officer of Radiology at the Moscow Health Care Department and Medical Director of the Center for Diagnostics and Telemedicine, said the changes are helping physicians work more efficiently in high-volume settings.

“Radiologists review a large number of examinations every day, so optimizing workloads is essential,” he said.

“We are introducing solutions that accelerate routine tasks while preserving diagnostic quality. Our new structured chest X-ray report has already reduced average turnaround time by 23%, and we plan to expand similar tools to other imaging modalities.”

Structured reports reduce errors

The new reporting system uses a guided template with checkboxes, required fields, and built-in reference libraries.

Radiologists complete reports during image interpretation by selecting relevant findings and adding extra notes when necessary.

This approach reduces repetitive typing and helps ensure that critical diagnostic details are not missed.

Because the system requires completion of key fields before a report can be finalized, it also supports consistency across reports.

Roman Voloshin, Deputy Director for Medicine at the Center for Diagnostics and Telemedicine, said the design improves both speed and quality control.

“The template reduces reporting to just a few clicks while making sure important criteria are captured,” he said.

“That supports faster reporting and stronger compliance with quality standards.”

Expansion across imaging services

Following the success of the chest X-ray template, the Center has also introduced standardized reporting forms for mammography, fluorography, and sinus X-ray studies.

The organization expects these tools to further streamline radiology services across Moscow’s healthcare system, where digital transformation has been underway for more than a decade.

Over the years, Moscow has integrated smart technologies into daily clinical practice, helping hospitals and diagnostic centers improve efficiency, strengthen workflows, and support timely patient care.
