Sidra Medicine earns Elite ANCC Pathway to Excellence Designation with Distinction in Qatar

The ANCC Pathway to Excellence framework evaluates organizations on leadership, safety, professional development, workplace culture, and shared decision-making.

QATAR—Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, has become the first hospital in Qatar to receive the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Pathway to Excellence designation with distinction.

The internationally recognized credential highlights healthcare institutions that create strong nursing environments while maintaining high standards of patient safety and care quality.

The achievement places Sidra Medicine among a small group of hospitals worldwide that have earned this recognition.

Globally, just over 300 hospitals hold the designation, with only about 30 located outside the United States, underscoring the rarity of the award.

The ANCC Pathway to Excellence framework evaluates organizations on leadership, safety, professional development, workplace culture, and shared decision-making.

It also places strong emphasis on direct feedback from nurses, making their experiences central to the assessment process.

Leadership commitment to nursing excellence

Mr. Mohammed Khalid Al Mana, Acting Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board of Governors at Sidra Medicine, described the recognition as a significant milestone for the institution.

He noted that the distinction reflects Sidra Medicine’s commitment to building an environment where nurses can grow professionally while consistently delivering high-quality care to patients and families.

He added that achieving the distinction places the hospital among a select group of global institutions whose performance exceeds ANCC scoring thresholds, highlighting its sustained focus on excellence and continuous improvement in clinical care environments.

Nurses at the Center of the Recognition

Dr. Dina Schnurman, Chief Nursing Officer at Sidra Medicine, said the recognition carries special meaning because it is strongly influenced by feedback from nurses themselves.

She explained that their input demonstrated a supportive, collaborative, and empowering workplace that enables nurses to deliver safe and effective care.

She further emphasized that the designation reflects strong clinical practice, interdisciplinary teamwork, operational support, and the professionalism of nursing and midwifery teams across the institution.

Dr. Schnurman added that every nurse contributes daily to patient care with compassion and clinical expertise, particularly during critical moments for families and children.

Institutional culture and patient care focus

Sidra Medicine, known for its specialization in women’s, children’s, and adolescent health, continues to position nursing as a central pillar of patient-centered care.

The organization has invested in strengthening education, leadership development, and collaborative practice models to support healthcare delivery.

The Pathway to Excellence designation recognizes not only nursing performance but also the broader institutional culture that supports quality improvement, safety, and employee wellbeing.

It reflects the combined efforts of clinicians, educators, leaders, and support teams working toward shared goals in healthcare delivery.

Ongoing clinical and operational advancement

In recent weeks, Sidra Medicine has continued to highlight internal efforts to strengthen clinical performance, expand digital health integration, and support multidisciplinary care pathways across its pediatric and maternal health services.

These initiatives align with its broader strategy of maintaining internationally benchmarked standards of care while improving patient experience and operational efficiency.

The latest recognition adds to the hospital’s growing portfolio of quality and safety achievements, reinforcing its role as a leading academic medical and research institution in the region.
