The hospital will roll out in four phases covering technical planning, project management, commissioning, and full operational launch under Apollo’s brand.

KENYA—Kenya’s Balmer Healthcare Limited and India’s Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly build a Sh26 million (USD200M) tertiary hospital in Eldoret.
The facility will offer comprehensive treatment across more than 20 medical specialties, serving a catchment population of over 50 million people across Kenya and the wider East African region.
Dividing responsibilities, sharing expertise
Under the terms of the partnership, Balmer Healthcare will oversee the construction of the hospital, while Apollo Hospitals will manage its operations and deploy experienced medical specialists to run the facility.
An Indian bank will finance the initiative, reflecting growing international confidence in Kenya’s healthcare sector.
Balmer Healthcare CEO Koima Langat described the project as a transformative investment, emphasising that patients will access the same quality of care locally that they would previously have had to travel overseas to receive.
Reducing medical tourism
One of the project’s central goals is to significantly cut the number of Kenyans who travel abroad for specialized treatment, particularly to India.
Apollo’s President for Group Oncology and International, Dinesh Madhavan, said the partnership reflects the company’s mission to expand access to high-quality healthcare globally.
“With our entry into Kenya, we aim to bring our expertise and personalised care closer to patients here,” he said.
A phased rollout
The hospital will roll out in four phases covering technical planning, project management, commissioning, and full operational launch under Apollo’s brand.
Apollo Hospitals, one of Asia’s largest integrated healthcare providers, operates more than 75 hospitals in India and has treated patients from over 140 countries, giving it deep experience in managing complex, large-scale medical facilities.
Unveiled at Kenya’s Investment Conference
The project gained public attention at the Kenya International Investment Conference in Nairobi, hosted by President William Ruto.
The forum brought together government officials, investors, and development partners to explore opportunities across healthcare, trade, and technology.
President Ruto highlighted Kenya’s strategic location, skilled workforce, and economic reforms as key factors making the country an attractive investment destination.
