UAE—Burjeel Medical City (BMC), the UAE’s flagship facility of Burjeel Holdings, has officially opened the Burjeel Eye Institute to address the emirate’s growing demand for advanced ophthalmic services.
The specialized center delivers comprehensive diagnostic and treatment options for a full spectrum of eye diseases, ensuring personalized and holistic care that meets international standards for patients across all age groups.
Leadership and vision
Senior officials and healthcare leaders gathered to mark the inauguration of this pioneering facility.
Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Burjeel Holdings, attended alongside prominent figures including Khaled Ateeq Aldhaheri, Chief Executive Officer of Daman, and Abdulaziz Jaber Mohammed Al Shareef, Deputy Director of the Medical Services Department at Abu Dhabi Police.
Khawla Al Nasseri, Quality Assurance Director at the Department of Health, and Mujtaba Ali Khan, Chief Executive Officer of Burjeel Medical City, also participated in the ceremony.
Addressing critical healthcare needs
Consultant Ophthalmologist Murad Manea Alobthani leads the institute as its Head, bringing extensive expertise to guide the center’s mission.
The facility responds to a pressing need in Abu Dhabi, where residents face rising rates of age-related eye diseases, diabetes-related vision complications, and various retinal disorders.
Alobthani emphasized that the institute marks a meaningful advancement in the emirate’s ophthalmic services landscape.
The center prioritizes comprehensive care built on cutting-edge diagnostic and surgical innovations while maintaining an unwavering commitment to patient safety and superior quality outcomes.
Alobthani explained that the institute’s primary goal centers on preserving vision, enhancing quality of life, and delivering services that rival those of leading global centers, thereby eliminating the necessity for patients to seek treatment abroad.

The Burjeel Eye Institute encompasses a broad range of ophthalmic subspecialties to meet diverse patient needs.
These include cataract surgery and vision correction procedures, treatment for retinal and vitreous diseases, glaucoma management, and care for corneal and ocular surface conditions.
Additionally, the center provides pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus treatment, oculoplastic procedures, and specialized care for optic nerve disorders.

During the launch event, the institute announced a strategic partnership with Oftalvist, a prominent Spain-based ophthalmology group.
Alobthani and Juan Alvarez de Toledo formalized the collaboration by signing a memorandum of understanding designed to facilitate knowledge exchange and enhance clinical cooperation between the two organizations.
