Aga Khan University Hospital expands Nairobi network with new specialty in Gigiri

KENYA—Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi has opened a new Specialty and Executive Clinic in Gigiri, further expanding its outpatient network and improving access to specialised healthcare services across Nairobi.

The facility serves residents and professionals in Gigiri, Nyari, Runda, Redhill Road, and the broader Limuru Road corridor, providing a more convenient alternative to travelling to the main hospital or other distant centres.

Moreover, the new clinic reflects the hospital’s ongoing effort to decentralise care by bringing essential medical services closer to where patients live and work.

 As demand for specialised healthcare continues to rise in Nairobi, the expansion aims to ease pressure on central facilities while improving patient experience.

Wide range of services under one roof

The Gigiri clinic forms part of the hospital’s growing network of 54 outpatient medical centres across Nairobi and its surrounding areas.

It provides a comprehensive range of services, including cardiology, endocrinology, paediatrics, dermatology, neurology, haematology-oncology, nephrology, pulmonology, and counselling psychology.

In addition, the facility offers obstetrics and gynaecology, family medicine, dental care, optical services, and vaccination.

To enhance convenience, the clinic also offers executive wellness services, supported by on-site diagnostic capabilities, including ultrasound and X-ray imaging.

As a result, patients can access multiple services in one location without the need for referrals to external facilities.

Commitment to quality and consistency

Speaking during the launch, Rashid Khalani said the expansion aligns with the hospital’s strategy to improve accessibility without compromising quality.

He emphasised that increasing access to specialised care remains central to the institution’s long-term vision.

Furthermore, Khalani noted that the same consultants who work at the main hospital also serve at outreach clinics.

This approach ensures consistency in care delivery across all locations while maintaining the hospital’s established clinical standards.

Support from UN leadership

The opening ceremony was officiated by Zainab Bangura, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Nairobi.

She commended the hospital for its continued investment in expanding access to specialised healthcare services within the city.

According to Bangura, the new facility represents a practical response to the increasing demand for high-quality and easily accessible medical care in Nairobi.

 She also highlighted the importance of sustained investment and clear strategic direction in strengthening healthcare systems.

Broader strategy for decentralised healthcare

Beyond physical facilities, the hospital continues to strengthen its decentralised care model through home-based services.

These include home delivery of medications and laboratory sample collection across Nairobi and nearby areas.

Consequently, patients benefit from greater flexibility and convenience, especially those who require ongoing care or face challenges accessing health facilities.

Through these combined efforts, the hospital continues to expand its reach while adapting to the evolving healthcare needs of Nairobi’s population.
