OrganaBio acquires Excellos assets to form bicoastal cell therapy CDMO

USA—OrganaBio, LLC has acquired all operating assets of San Diego-based Excellos Inc., with the aim of substantially establishing a bicoastal cell therapy contract development and manufacturing organisation.

Following the transaction, OrganaBio formed a new subsidiary, Excellos Labs, LLC, which will manage West Coast operations from San Diego.

Through this acquisition, the company strengthens its ability to support cell therapy developers with integrated manufacturing, processing, and cryopreservation services under a unified platform.

Expanded national manufacturing footprint

With the integration, OrganaBio, LLC now operates across multiple U.S. facilities spanning both coasts.

Its Miami headquarters anchors East Coast operations and houses adult leukapheresis services through its HemaCenter subsidiary, as well as birth tissue and cord blood sourcing through GaiaGift.

In addition, the site includes ISO 7 cGMP cleanrooms, process development labs, QC and analytical testing capabilities, PBMC isolation, and cryopreservation services.

On the West Coast, OrganaBio maintains facilities in San Francisco and Irvine, California, and now adds Excellos’ downtown San Diego site, which includes five ISO 7 cGMP cleanroom suites designed for autologous and allogeneic cell therapy manufacturing, cell isolation, expansion, enrichment, and fill-finish operations.

Integrated Cell therapy services and supply chain strengthening

The combined platform delivers end-to-end support for cell therapy development, including PBMC isolation for clinical trial samples and cryopreservation of leukopaks prior to manufacturing.

By operating under a single quality system across multiple sites, the company reduces supply chain fragmentation while improving consistency in manufacturing processes.

Moreover, the expanded geographic footprint provides redundancy that helps developers mitigate risks associated with single-source dependency, while avoiding variability that may arise from splitting production across multiple vendors.

Market position and customer base

The integrated organization now serves a diverse customer base that includes several of the top 20 global pharmaceutical companies alongside emerging biotechnology developers.

Its supported therapeutic programs focus primarily on oncology and autoimmune diseases, covering both autologous and allogeneic cell therapies in clinical and commercial stages of development.

Leadership perspective and operational continuity

OrganaBio Chief Executive Officer Justin Irizarry stated that combining infrastructure and teams allows the company to better match the speed and quality demands of cell therapy developers.

He emphasized that maintaining uninterrupted service for existing customers remains a top priority during integration.

Similarly, Excellos Chief Executive Officer Tom VanCott noted that the transaction ensures continuity for current clients while expanding access to additional services, including cord blood sourcing and enhanced geographic reach.

Integration timeline and future operations

Both organizations will continue operating independently in the short term to ensure stability for ongoing customer programs.

Over the next 12 months, OrganaBio will gradually integrate operations, aligning quality systems, expanding service offerings, and optimizing manufacturing workflows across all sites.
