Siemens Healthineers collaborates with Cercare Medical to advance cone-beam CT perfusion for acute stroke care

The collaboration integrates Cercare Medical Neurosuite (CMN), a vendor-neutral imaging platform that provides automated perfusion analysis across CT, MRI, and Cone-Beam CT, with Siemens Healthineers’ Syngo DynaCT Multiphase system.

GERMANY—Cercare Medical and Siemens Healthineers have announced a global collaboration to accelerate the adoption of Cone-Beam CT Perfusion (CBCT-P) in acute stroke care.

The partnership focuses on improving visualization of cerebral blood flow and tissue perfusion to support faster clinical decision-making during time-critical interventions.

By integrating advanced imaging software with angiography systems, both companies aim to bring perfusion analysis directly into the interventional suite, where speed and accuracy significantly influence patient outcomes.

Integrated imaging and software solution

The collaboration integrates Cercare Medical Neurosuite (CMN), a vendor-neutral imaging platform that provides automated perfusion analysis across CT, MRI, and Cone-Beam CT, with Siemens Healthineers’ Syngo DynaCT Multiphase system.

The technology enables up to ten-phase 3D angiographic imaging, capturing real-time vascular dynamics during intervention.

Combined, the systems deliver advanced perfusion and metabolic imaging within the angiography suite.

This allows clinicians to diagnose and treat stroke without moving patients between imaging departments, reducing delays and streamlining workflows in emergency neurointerventional care.

Clinical impact in acute stroke management

Stroke remains a leading cause of death and long-term disability worldwide, with estimates suggesting one in four adults may experience it during their lifetime.

During an acute stroke, millions of neurons are lost each minute, making rapid imaging essential for effective treatment.

The integrated solution supports immediate assessment of tissue viability during and after thrombectomy procedures.

It enables detection of distal occlusions, microvascular disturbances, and the no-reflow phenomenon.

In addition, Cone-Beam CT Perfusion generates near CT-like perfusion maps on angiography systems, providing intra-procedural insights into perfusion status and metabolic biomarkers that inform real-time therapeutic decisions.

Clinical validation and expert insight

The scientific foundation of the approach has been developed with Prof. Johannes Kaesmacher at Inselspital, Bern University Hospital, Switzerland, with additional ongoing evaluations at leading international centers.

He noted that clinicians can only treat what they can visualize, and that CBCT perfusion provides critical insights directly in the angiography suite when CT or MRI is not immediately available.

He added that real-time imaging supports decision-making in acute stroke care, including assessment of residual occlusions, no-reflow events, complications, and tissue viability prediction.

Industry perspectives on global deployment

Henrik Andersen, Chief Commercial Officer at Cercare Medical, said the collaboration supports global scaling of perfusion imaging.

He added that the standalone Neurosuite continues to address perfusion-only needs while offering flexibility for stroke centers seeking advanced decision support in the angio suite.

Carsten Bertram, Head of Advanced Therapies at Siemens Healthineers, said that combining Syngo DynaCT with Cercare software creates a comprehensive solution that supports clinicians across the stroke care pathway and advances interventional imaging capabilities.
