AfriSummit 2026 set to convene African health regulators in Nairobi
Organisers expect more than 16 national regulatory authorities and notified bodies, alongside more than 100 speakers and 450 decision makers from over 25 countries.
KENYA—AfriSummit 2026, the sixth edition of the regulatory affairs summit for Africa’s pharmaceutical, medical device, in vitro diagnostics (IVD), and diagnostics sectors, will take place from 28 September to 2 October 2026 at the Emara Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi.
The event will mark the summit’s first edition in East Africa, with Kenya hosting the five-day meeting under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and the patronage of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB).
Organizers expect more than 16 national regulatory authorities and notified bodies, alongside more than 100 speakers and 450 decision makers from over 25 countries.
The participants will include regulators, government representatives, industry associations, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, technology providers and regulatory professionals.
The programme will comprise two dedicated summits. PharmaReg AfriSummit will run from 28 to 30 September, followed by MedDevReg AfriSummit from 1 to 2 October, providing separate platforms for pharmaceutical and medical device regulatory discussions.
Focus on regulatory capacity and local manufacturing
Dr Mona Al Moussli, Chairman of AfriSummit, said African regulatory systems are undergoing significant development, with increasing attention on local manufacturing, national regulatory capacity and regulatory reliance.
According to Al Moussli, the summit will provide an opportunity for regulators and industry representatives to discuss these priorities and identify areas for cooperation.
The programme will cover several regulatory issues affecting the continent, including progress under the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Benchmarking Tool, local manufacturing, clinical research, regulatory harmonisation, medical device and IVD oversight, artificial intelligence, product traceability, and substandard and falsified health products.
The event will also include a one day workshop on electronic Common Technical Document (eCTD) training.
The workshop will provide practical guidance on electronic regulatory submissions in line with evolving African and international requirements.
Dr Najiba Al Shezawy, Co Chairman of AfriSummit, said the summit brings together stakeholders from across the regulatory and healthcare sectors to exchange knowledge, develop professional relationships, and strengthen regulatory cooperation across Africa.
