UAE / SAUDI ARABIA—Aster DM Healthcare has secured places for seven hospitals in Newsweek’s World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2027 rankings, reflecting the group’s investment in digital technologies to improve clinical workflows, hospital operations and patient care.
The recognised facilities include Aster Hospital Al Qusais, ranked 167th, and Aster Hospital Mankhool, ranked 214th.
Both received three ribbons based on the digital maturity survey.
Medcare Hospital Al Safa ranked 158th with two ribbons, while Medcare Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital placed 351st with two ribbons.
Medcare Royal Specialty Hospital and Medcare Hospital Sharjah ranked 279th and 287th, respectively, each receiving one ribbon. In Saudi Arabia, Aster Sanad Hospital ranked 328th.
Newsweek compiled the rankings in collaboration with Statista to recognise hospitals adopting digital technologies in healthcare delivery.
The assessment considers peer recommendations, digital maturity, and healthcare technology-related accreditations and certifications.
The digital maturity assessment covers seven domains, including digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and automation, and governance.
These areas reflect the growing use of technology to support clinical decision-making, automate routine tasks and improve coordination across healthcare services.
Investment in digital healthcare
Seven of Aster DM Healthcare’s 16 hospitals across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) featured in the 2027 rankings, compared with four in the previous edition.
The group also reported improved rankings for all seven hospitals, after being represented by only one hospital in the 2025 edition.
The results come as healthcare providers across the Gulf invest in digital systems to improve service delivery, manage operational demands and strengthen patient engagement.
However, integrating these technologies requires more than acquiring new systems.
Hospitals must also ensure that digital tools support clinical teams, protect patient information and fit into established care pathways.
Commenting on the recognition, Dr Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, said technology was playing an increasingly important role in healthcare, but its value depended on how effectively it supported clinical teams and improved the patient experience.
He described digital innovation as a means of delivering more connected care while preserving the expertise of healthcare professionals and the human element of treatment.
Alisha Moopen, Managing Director and Group CEO of Aster DM Healthcare, attributed the recognition to the efforts of teams across the network and their commitment to improving healthcare delivery.
She said quality care depended on clinical expertise, reliable systems and continuous improvement, adding that patient and community needs would continue to guide the group’s priorities as it expanded.
