The facility operates in accordance with requirements established by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

USA—Glenmark Pharmaceuticals has inaugurated a 160,000-square-foot distribution centre in Allentown, Pennsylvania, consolidating its US pharmaceutical distribution operations to strengthen domestic supply-chain capacity.
Located on a 6.5-acre site, the facility is the company’s sole distribution hub in the US and its largest distribution centre in North America.
Its 45 employees oversee administration, quality control and daily operations, coordinating shipments of prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medicines to 321 destinations across 43 states.
Since commencing operations, the centre has distributed more than 61 million units nationwide.
Distribution infrastructure and regulatory compliance
The facility operates in accordance with requirements established by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Its infrastructure includes refrigerated cold-chain storage, controlled-room-temperature sections and DEA-compliant security cages and vaults to accommodate different pharmaceutical storage requirements.
Glenmark Pharmaceuticals President and North America Business Head Marc Kikuchi said the investment reflects the company’s continued commitment to serving US patients, customers and business partners, following more than two decades of operations in the country.
He noted that the company’s US operations span research, manufacturing and distribution, with Allentown providing a central location to coordinate medicine shipments.
The company selected the Lehigh Valley for its skilled workforce, established community, proximity to customers, and its US headquarters.
Safety and environmental management also form part of the centre’s operational framework.
Employees follow established procedures for shelter-in-place situations, evacuations and medical emergencies.
Other measures include energy-efficiency initiatives, recycling, waste reduction, improved packaging and optimised delivery routes.
US manufacturing and research investments
The Allentown investment forms part of Glenmark’s broader expansion of its US pharmaceutical operations.
The company employs nearly 400 people nationwide and maintains a portfolio of 229 FDA-authorised products, supporting approximately 90 million prescriptions annually.
Glenmark has invested close to US$1 billion in its US research and manufacturing capabilities, including nearly US$400 million in its FDA-approved manufacturing facility in Monroe, North Carolina.
Its US operations also include the corporate headquarters in Elmwood Park, New Jersey, and Ichnos Glenmark Innovation (IGI), its wholly owned biotechnology subsidiary based in New York.
The Monroe facility supports domestic manufacturing, while IGI focuses on biotechnology innovation.
The Allentown centre joins these facilities as part of an integrated operating network covering corporate management, pharmaceutical manufacturing, research and distribution.
Its centralised distribution model supports the movement of medicines across multiple US markets and adds capacity to the company’s domestic pharmaceutical supply infrastructure.
