OMRON Healthcare begins full-scale blood pressure monitor production at first Indian factory

Operated by OMRON HEALTHCARE MANUFACTURING INDIA Pvt. Ltd., the approximately 24,000-square-metre factory is located at ORIGINS by Mahindra and has five production lines serving the Indian market.

INDIA—OMRON Healthcare Co., Ltd. has begun full-scale blood pressure monitor production at its first manufacturing facility in India, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to strengthen local supply and expand access to home health monitoring devices.

The company opened the facility to domestic and international media and other stakeholders to mark the start of commercial production.

Operated by OMRON HEALTHCARE MANUFACTURING INDIA Pvt. Ltd., the approximately 24,000-square-metre factory is located at ORIGINS by Mahindra and has five production lines serving the Indian market.

Local manufacturing and product expansion

The facility manufactures the HEM-7090, HEM-7181 and HEM-7183T blood pressure monitor series, drawing on the production technologies and quality control systems used at OMRON Healthcare’s Matsusaka factory in Japan and at its facility in Vietnam.

The devices are manufactured to the same measurement accuracy and quality standards as products supplied to international markets.

The product range caters to different consumer needs, from basic monitors for first-time users to advanced models featuring Trend Indicator alerts and Bluetooth connectivity with the OMRON Connect health management application.

The investment also supports India’s Make in India initiative through local component sourcing, workforce development and job creation.

Addressing India’s hypertension burden

The expansion comes as India faces a growing cardiovascular disease burden.

An estimated 300 million people live with hypertension, while cardiovascular diseases, including stroke and heart failure, remain among the country’s leading causes of death, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Despite the need for regular blood pressure monitoring, fewer than 5% of Indian households reportedly use home blood pressure monitors regularly.

Limited access to healthcare services in some regions further complicates early detection and long-term management.

By increasing domestic production, OMRON Healthcare aims to make home monitoring devices more widely available, helping people identify elevated blood pressure earlier and manage cardiovascular risks in consultation with healthcare professionals.

OMRON Healthcare has operated in India since 2010, supporting hypertension awareness campaigns, academic research and collaboration with healthcare professionals.

It also worked with the Indian Society of Hypertension to develop the country’s first home blood pressure monitoring guidelines.

Production targets and long-term strategy

The company plans to increase the Chennai factory’s production capacity tenfold by 2028.

It also intends to develop the facility into a supply base for international markets and introduce manufacturing of nebulizers used to treat respiratory conditions such as asthma.

Ayumu Okada, president and chief executive officer of OMRON Healthcare, said the investment aligns with the OMRON Group’s long-term vision, Shaping the Future 2030, which focuses on carbon neutrality, digital transformation and extending healthy life expectancy.

He said India’s economic development was increasing awareness of preventive healthcare, although timely detection and treatment of cardiovascular diseases remained significant challenges.

OMRON Healthcare plans to address these gaps through locally tailored products, public health awareness programmes, research partnerships and collaboration with medical professionals.

Okada added that full-scale production in Chennai would help secure a stable supply of medical-grade blood pressure monitors while strengthening the company’s contribution to India’s domestic manufacturing agenda.
