WellSpan Health chooses Philips Imaging Platforms for 12 regional hospitals

USA—Royal Philips and WellSpan Health have entered a seven-year strategic alliance aimed at accelerating the use of advanced imaging, artificial intelligence, and digital health technologies across Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland.

The collaboration brings together clinical expertise and health technology innovation to improve diagnostic services and streamline care delivery across WellSpan’s hospitals, imaging centers, and ambulatory facilities.

Building a unified innovation and research ecosystem

Through this collaboration, both organizations are establishing a joint research and innovation framework that integrates clinical expertise with advanced technology development.

The alliance positions WellSpan as a key innovation partner for Philips, enabling the two institutions to co-develop and validate new digital health tools in real-world clinical environments.

WellSpan leadership emphasized that the initiative supports a more coordinated approach to healthcare technology planning and deployment.

The system aims to streamline the introduction of advanced imaging and diagnostic platforms across facilities, ensuring consistent access to modern care tools for patients at all service points.

Advancing AI, imaging, and workforce efficiency

A central pillar of the agreement focuses on artificial intelligence, workflow optimization, and imaging efficiency.

The joint research agenda will assess how AI-enabled tools can improve patient throughput, reduce operational costs, and enhance clinical workflows across hospitals and imaging centers.

WellSpan aims to reclaim more than 500,000 hours of workforce time annually by leveraging automation, predictive analytics, and integrated digital systems.

By embedding AI into routine imaging and diagnostic processes, the partnership seeks to reduce administrative burden while improving the speed and accuracy of clinical decision-making.

Co-Development of Next-Generation Healthcare Technologies

In addition to research, Philips and WellSpan will collaborate on co-creating new healthcare technologies.

Philips Research will work closely with clinicians and engineers from WellSpan to design future imaging and diagnostic solutions, using real-world clinical settings as testing and development environments.

This approach allows both organizations to refine emerging technologies before broader deployment, ensuring that new tools are practical, scalable, and aligned with clinical needs.

Enterprise-wide imaging transformation

Under the commercial component of the agreement, Philips will serve as WellSpan’s preferred provider across multiple imaging modalities, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, digital X-ray, and image-guided therapy systems.

The agreement spans 12 hospitals along with diagnostic imaging and ambulatory surgery centers, creating a unified imaging infrastructure across the entire network.

The partnership also introduces a structured lifecycle management model that aligns equipment upgrades, staff training, and service support within a single coordinated framework.

This is expected to enhance imaging availability, reduce equipment downtime, and improve patient access to diagnostic services across different facilities.
