As part of the transaction, Besins Healthcare will take ownership of UniD Manufacturing’s production facility in Seraing, Belgium.

BELGIUM—Besins Healthcare has expanded its pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities after acquiring Belgian drug delivery specialist UniD Manufacturing.
The move strengthens the company’s position in long-acting drug delivery technologies and broadens its research and development footprint in Europe.
As part of the transaction, Besins Healthcare will take ownership of UniD Manufacturing’s production facility in Seraing, Belgium.
The deal also includes the transfer of all 52 employees, ensuring continuity of operations and preserving the company’s technical expertise.
Following the acquisition, UniD Manufacturing will operate under a new name, Besins Healthcare PharmTech.
The new division will serve as a dedicated innovation hub, focusing on developing advanced drug-delivery technologies and advancing pharmaceutical projects.
Expanding advanced drug delivery technologies
UniD Manufacturing has built its reputation over the past two decades by developing long-acting drug delivery platforms based on advanced polymer technologies.
These systems support complex dosage forms, including implants and vaginal rings, which are designed to release medicines over extended periods.
The acquisition complements Besins Healthcare’s existing portfolio of hormone therapies for men’s and women’s health.
Its products include Estrogel/Oestrogel (estradiol) and Utrogestan (micronised progesterone) for women, alongside Androgel/Testogel (testosterone) for men.
By integrating UniD’s expertise, Besins Healthcare aims to expand the development of medicines that require less frequent dosing.
Long-acting formulations can improve treatment adherence while offering greater convenience for patients managing chronic conditions.
Leadership welcomes the partnership
Besins Healthcare co-CEOs Nicolas Besins and Alexandre Besins described the acquisition as the coming together of two organisations with complementary scientific and technical expertise.
They said they were pleased to welcome the UniD team into the Besins Healthcare group and viewed the partnership as a natural fit for both companies.
They also expressed confidence that the combined expertise would support future innovation.
UniD Manufacturing Executive Chairman Marc Foidart said the company was proud of everything its team had achieved during the past 20 years.
He added that joining Besins Healthcare would allow those capabilities to grow further while creating new opportunities for innovation.
Foidart also said the company would continue serving its existing customers with the same level of commitment and quality they have come to expect.
Operations continue without disruption
The companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the acquisition.
In the short term, UniD Manufacturing will continue operating as usual while maintaining services for its current customers.
Besins Healthcare said the transition is expected to proceed without disrupting ongoing manufacturing activities or development programmes.
The acquisition comes as pharmaceutical companies increasingly invest in long-acting drug delivery technologies to improve patient outcomes and expand treatment options across multiple therapeutic areas.
For Besins Healthcare, which operates through 22 subsidiaries in 114 countries, the addition of UniD Manufacturing further strengthens its global capabilities in research, manufacturing, and pharmaceutical innovation.
