BeOne Medicines invests US$300M in New Jersey to expand US onshoring footprint

The company plans to construct a new three-story, 145,000-square-foot facility for drug product manufacturing and packaging next to its existing operations.

USA—BeOne Medicines is investing US$300 million to expand its main manufacturing and research and development (R&D) campus in New Jersey.

This move comes as pharmaceutical companies strive to increase their production capacity in the U.S. amid growing pressures from tariffs and drug prices.

The investment at the Princeton West Innovation Campus in Hopewell will bring BeOne’s total commitment to US manufacturing and R&D to more than US$1 billion.

The expansion will also create about 120 new manufacturing jobs once completed.

BeOne, formerly known as BeiGene, said the project will introduce small-molecule manufacturing capabilities at the Hopewell campus, which currently focuses on biologics production.

The company plans to construct a new three-story, 145,000-square-foot facility for drug product manufacturing and packaging next to its existing operations.

According to the company, the expansion will eventually increase the Hopewell campus to 545,000 square feet.

The new building will also include quality-control laboratories, office space, and additional capacity to support future growth.

BeOne expects the expanded facility to become fully operational by 2029. Once small-molecule manufacturing begins, the site is expected to employ about 240 workers.

US manufacturing footprint

BeOne opened the New Jersey facility in 2024 to support commercial and clinical-stage manufacturing for its solid-tumor cancer portfolio.

The Hopewell campus is the company’s only manufacturing site in the US and one of three facilities it operates globally, alongside manufacturing sites in Guangzhou and Suzhou, China.

“Today’s announcement reflects BeOne’s commitment to strengthening US manufacturing and expanding access to innovative medicines for patients with cancer,” said Aaron Rosenberg, BeOne’s chief financial officer.

Rosenberg also credited federal tax policies promoted by President Donald Trump, as well as New Jersey’s Next New Jersey Manufacturing Program and the governor’s support for advanced manufacturing and high-quality jobs, for helping create an environment that supports long-term growth.

Pharma investment amid policy pressure

BeOne’s expansion comes as pharmaceutical companies respond to pressure from the Trump administration to increase domestic manufacturing and investment in research and development.

Since Trump returned to office for his second term, the administration has used the prospect of tariffs on imported medicines and demands for lower drug prices to encourage major pharmaceutical companies to expand their US operations.

These efforts have resulted in investment commitments from 17 large drugmakers.

BeOne also highlighted the growing importance of the US to its global operations. More than 2,000 of the company’s 12,000 employees worldwide are based in the US.

The company estimates that it generated nearly US$2 billion in direct economic impact in the US in 2025, while investing about US$1 billion in domestic R&D.

Although BeOne is officially domiciled in Switzerland, the company continues to expand its manufacturing and research presence in the US as it builds capacity to support its growing oncology portfolio.
