SMT’s adoption of Teamcenter is intended to improve visibility into product development activities while helping the company manage the documentation and controls required in the highly regulated medical device industry.

INDIA— Sahajanand Medical Technologies (SMT) has implemented Siemens’ Teamcenter software to accelerate medical device development and strengthen product life cycle management across its operations.
The cardiovascular device manufacturer has adopted the platform as part of a broader digital transformation programme aimed at improving collaboration among teams and supporting compliance with international regulatory requirements.
Centralising product development data
Teamcenter, part of Siemens’ Xcelerator portfolio, provides SMT with a centralised digital environment that brings together information from engineering, quality and programme management teams.
Through the platform, SMT aims to digitise key product life cycle processes and give employees a common source of information throughout the development and manufacturing journey.
The company also expects the system to help its teams work more efficiently while meeting requirements under regulations and standards such as the US FDA’s 21 CFR Part 820 and ISO 13485.
The software provides medical device-specific capabilities covering collaboration, project planning, product classification and schedule management.
It also supports the creation and management of design history files and device master records, as well as change management, testing and verification activities.
By connecting these processes within a single digital environment, the system can provide traceability across product requirements, design, manufacturing and quality assurance.
Supporting regulatory compliance

The platform also enables teams to track product changes and related quality activities throughout the life cycle.
This approach allows engineering and quality personnel to work from connected information rather than relying on separate systems and processes.
Siemens said its implementation partner, ThinkInnov Solutions, led the deployment for SMT.
The partner handled the system’s configuration and implementation and provided training to employees to support its adoption.
The digital platform is now being used by SMT’s research and development and quality teams.
Employees can use it across several stages of product development, including initial risk analysis, development, product launch and subsequent product changes.
Expanding digital capabilities
Mathew Thomas, managing director of Siemens India, said medical device manufacturers face growing product complexity alongside increasingly demanding regulatory requirements.
He said connecting product development and quality processes through Teamcenter can give manufacturers greater visibility and traceability while improving collaboration between teams.
According to Thomas, these capabilities can help manufacturers meet regulatory requirements while shortening the time needed to bring new products to market.
SMT manufactures cardiovascular medical devices and is expanding its presence in international healthcare markets.
The company is using the digital transformation initiative to streamline how it develops, manages and delivers its products to healthcare customers worldwide.
