GE HealthCare expands breast imaging portfolio with new AI-powered ultrasound duo

The company has launched Invenia Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) Prime and ABUS StreamVue, which target different stages of the breast imaging workflow.

GERMANY—GE HealthCare has expanded its breast imaging portfolio with two new solutions designed to support supplemental screening for women with dense breast tissue and improve the review of breast ultrasound exams across healthcare networks.

The company has launched Invenia Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) Prime and ABUS StreamVue, which target different stages of the breast imaging workflow.

While ABUS Prime focuses on ultrasound image acquisition and lesion detection, ABUS StreamVue aims to simplify how clinicians access and review automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) examinations across multiple sites.

Supporting screening for dense breasts

GE HealthCare designed ABUS Prime to complement mammography and support earlier breast cancer detection in women with dense breasts.

Dense breast tissue can make it more difficult to identify some abnormalities on mammograms, increasing the role of supplemental imaging techniques such as ultrasound.

The new system uses GE HealthCare’s graphics processing engine and incorporates AI-based tools intended to improve the consistency and reproducibility of breast ultrasound scans.

One of these tools, Scan Quality Assessment, evaluates the quality of acquired images, while Auto Nipple Detection helps identify the nipple automatically during the scanning process.

These features are designed to support standardised image acquisition and reduce variability between examinations.

The system also includes QVCAD, which is designed to help radiologists identify breast lesions and streamline image interpretation.

By assisting with lesion detection, the tool aims to reduce the time clinicians spend reviewing ABUS images.

Streamlining enterprise-wide image review

Alongside ABUS Prime, GE HealthCare has introduced ABUS StreamVue, an image viewer designed to standardise the review of ABUS examinations across healthcare organisations.

The solution provides remote access to breast ultrasound exams, allowing clinicians to review images across different locations.

It also includes adaptable licensing options intended to simplify deployment within enterprise imaging environments.

The company said the two solutions can help breast imaging programmes standardise three-dimensional ultrasound acquisition, support remote image interpretation and simplify deployment across multi-site healthcare networks.

“As breast imaging networks look to scale across sites, Invenia ABUS Prime can help deliver streamlined workflows, reproducible imaging, with features designed to support both patient comfort and clinician efficiency,” said Karley Yoder, CEO, Ultrasound Solutions, Advanced Imaging Solutions at GE HealthCare.

Yoder added that ABUS Prime builds on the company’s commitment to advancing supplemental breast screening for women with dense breast tissue.

The launch comes as healthcare providers increasingly seek imaging technologies that can support consistent examinations across multiple locations while enabling clinicians to access diagnostic images remotely.

GE HealthCare said its latest solutions are designed to address these requirements by combining automated ultrasound acquisition, AI-enabled image analysis and enterprise-wide image viewing capabilities.
