Syntegon expands oral solid dosage portfolio with new Sepion 75 tablet coater
The Sepion 75 completes Syntegon’s established Sepion tablet coating range and is designed to support consistent scale-up, flexible batch processing and containment-focused manufacturing.
GERMANY—Syntegon, a lifecycle partner to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, has expanded its oral solid dosage (OSD) processing portfolio with the launch of the Sepion 75 tablet coater.
The pilot-scale machine is designed to help pharmaceutical manufacturers and contract development and manufacturing organisations (CDMOs) manage increasing product diversity, smaller and more variable batch sizes, and stricter containment requirements for highly potent active ingredients.
The Sepion 75 completes Syntegon’s established Sepion tablet coating range and is designed to support consistent scale-up, flexible batch processing and containment-focused manufacturing.
The company said the series combines its coating expertise with a machine design adapted to the changing requirements of pharmaceutical production.
“By extending the Sepion series to the pilot scale, we support pharmaceutical manufacturers in simplifying development and scale-up while maintaining consistent process principles across production stages,” said Fritz-Martin Scholz, Global Product Manager at Syntegon.
The Sepion 75 can process batches ranging from 10% to 100% of its maximum working volume, giving manufacturers greater flexibility across different production requirements.
In addition, two interchangeable drum sizes in a single machine cover batch volumes from 8 to 75 litres.
This configuration allows manufacturers to use the same equipment for early development batches and larger pilot runs without redefining process parameters.
As a result, users can simplify production planning and minimise downtime during product changeovers.
Optimised coating performance
Syntegon has combined optimised drum geometry with an advanced spraying system to improve process-air efficiency and shorten coating times.
The machine also features an automatically adjustable spray arm that maintains the appropriate spray position at different filling levels.
This design helps create consistent coating conditions across varying batch sizes and supports demanding applications, including functional coatings that require precise and reproducible processing.
The Sepion 75 also incorporates closed material handling during filling, sampling and discharge.
By reducing manual intervention, the system supports safer handling of products containing highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients.
Containment and scalable production
Containment up to Occupational Exposure Band (OEB) 5 is available across the Sepion range through features including split valves, safe-change filters and extended cleaning configurations.
These options are designed to reduce operator exposure and contamination risks while supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing requirements.
Beyond the Sepion 75, the product family includes six other machine sizes with capacities ranging from 175 to 1,000 litres.
The range therefore provides manufacturers with scalable coating solutions spanning development, pilot and commercial production.
