The key topics that will be covered will include diabetes technology, early intervention for type 1 diabetes, childhood obesity, precision medicine and therapies for rare endocrine conditions.

QATAR—Sidra Medicine, a member of the Qatar Foundation, will host the Qatar Pediatric Endocrine and Diabetes Conference (QPED 2026) in Doha from 27 to 28 November to examine advances in diagnosing and treating diabetes and endocrine disorders affecting children and adolescents.
Held under the theme “Advancing Excellence in Pediatric Endocrine and Diabetes Care,” the conference will bring healthcare professionals together to discuss new treatment approaches, emerging technologies and developments in pediatric endocrinology.
Key topics will include diabetes technology, early intervention for Type 1 diabetes, childhood obesity, precision medicine and therapies for rare endocrine conditions.
Focus on early intervention and diabetes technology
Dr Khalid Hussain, senior attending physician at Sidra Medicine and chair of the QPED 2026 conference, said pediatric endocrinology is advancing in areas such as precision medicine, diabetes technology, and treatments for rare conditions.
He highlighted a shift towards identifying children at risk of Type 1 diabetes and considering interventions earlier in the disease process.
QPED 2026 will provide a forum for healthcare professionals to examine how to incorporate these developments into clinical practice and tailor them to the needs of children and their families.
The two-day scientific programme will cover Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, childhood obesity, growth and puberty disorders, thyroid conditions, endocrine emergencies and rare endocrine diseases.
A dedicated session on the future of Type 1 diabetes will examine screening, prevention and immune-modulating therapies, alongside cell-based approaches such as islet transplantation and stem cell treatments.
These discussions will address developments aimed at changing how clinicians identify and manage the disease, although the availability and suitability of emerging treatments will vary.
The programme will also examine continuous glucose monitoring, insulin pumps and hybrid closed loop systems.
These technologies can help patients and caregivers monitor glucose levels and manage insulin delivery, while giving healthcare teams additional information to guide treatment.
Childhood obesity and rare disorders
Childhood obesity will form another major part of the conference, with sessions covering its recognition, assessment and management.
Experts will also discuss emerging treatment options and approaches that combine medical care with healthy lifestyle and behavioural interventions.
The agenda will include updates on therapies for monogenic obesity, achondroplasia and growth disorders.
Monogenic obesity refers to obesity caused by changes in a single gene, while achondroplasia is a genetic condition that affects bone growth.
Advances in these areas are expanding treatment options for some patients with specific underlying conditions.
The sessions are relevant to pediatric services as healthcare teams seek to improve the identification and management of endocrine disorders that can affect growth, development and long term health.
Multidisciplinary training and clinical practice
Dr Ahmed Al Hammadi, Chair of Pediatric Medicine at Sidra Medicine, said children with diabetes and endocrine disorders often require coordinated care from professionals across several specialties.
Bringing together physicians, nurses, diabetes educators, dietitians, researchers and allied health professionals will support knowledge sharing and discussions on managing complex conditions, he said.
The goal is to improve clinical outcomes and quality of life for children and young people.
Beyond scientific presentations and case based discussions, QPED 2026 will offer practical workshops on diabetes technology, insulin therapy and carbohydrate counting.
Additional sessions will address healthy lifestyle practices and behavioural approaches to managing childhood obesity.
The conference targets pediatric endocrinologists, diabetologists, pediatricians, primary care and family medicine physicians, nurses, diabetes educators, dietitians, pharmacists, allied health professionals, researchers and healthcare students.
QPED 2026 will take place at the Sidra Medicine Auditorium in Doha on 27 and 28 November 2026.
