Brenntag inks strategic global agreement with Budenheim for GMP bioprocess phosphates

The partnership combines Budenheim’s manufacturing expertise with Brenntag’s biopharma services and distribution network.

GERMANY—Brenntag, a global distributor of chemicals and ingredients, has entered into a strategic partnership with Budenheim, a manufacturer of high-purity phosphate specialties, to expand access to phosphate solutions for the biopharmaceutical industry.

The partnership combines Budenheim’s manufacturing expertise with Brenntag’s biopharma services and distribution network.

The companies aim to meet growing demand for high-purity phosphates used in buffer preparation, cell culture, downstream processing and drug formulation.

The collaboration will also give biopharmaceutical manufacturers greater flexibility by providing products in different package sizes.

This approach is designed to support customers at various stages of development, from early research and process development to commercial manufacturing.

Under the agreement, Budenheim’s dedicated biopharma phosphate portfolio will be available through Brenntag’s Biopharma brand, BYPHAR.

Brenntag will initially offer the co-branded high-purity phosphate products in pack sizes of up to 15 kg.

The products will be available globally, giving customers access to smaller quantities that are suitable for development and manufacturing activities.

Meanwhile, Budenheim’s PharSQ Pure brand, which is supplied in packages of 25 kg and above, will be distributed by Brenntag exclusively across Europe.

The arrangement therefore allows customers to select packaging according to their production requirements while accessing the same high-quality phosphate portfolio.

Seven GMP-manufactured products

The portfolio comprises seven phosphates manufactured under good manufacturing practice (GMP) conditions for biopharmaceutical applications.

These include monosodium phosphate in anhydrous, monohydrate and dihydrate forms, as well as disodium phosphate in anhydrous, dihydrate, heptahydrate and dodecahydrate forms.

The products comply with relevant monographs and undergo microbiological controls and endotoxin testing.

They are also supplied in packaging designed for biopharmaceutical applications, supporting the quality and handling requirements of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.

“This partnership brings together complementary strengths to provide customers with greater flexibility and improved access to high-quality phosphate solutions for biopharmaceutical applications,” said Gearoid O’Rourke, senior director, BioPharma at Brenntag Pharma.

Jorge Flores Martin, senior vice president, Marketing & Sales Division Life Science at Budenheim, said the companies’ long-standing partnership creates value for biopharmaceutical customers across Europe.

He added that Brenntag’s extensive distribution network will support the availability of PharSQ Pure products in larger packaging, while the BYPHAR brand will provide customers with access to the same solutions in smaller and more flexible formats.
