Cipla South Africa to supply critical childhood vaccines in new state tender

SOUTH AFRICA—Cipla South Africa has secured a major public sector vaccine tender, reinforcing its role in supporting South Africa’s national immunisation programme through the supply of affordable, high-quality vaccines for children and vulnerable communities.

The award marks another milestone in the company’s long-standing partnership with the country’s public healthcare sector and expands its growing presence in the vaccine market.

The pharmaceutical company submitted bids across several critical childhood immunisation categories, including the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV10), Rotavirus vaccine, and paediatric Hepatitis B vaccine.

These vaccines remain essential in preventing severe childhood illnesses such as pneumonia, diarrhoeal disease, meningitis, and hepatitis-related complications, which continue to place pressure on healthcare systems across the region.

Expanding support for national immunization goals

According to Paul Miller, CEO of Cipla Africa, the tender award reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening national immunisation priorities and improving access to preventative healthcare.

He explained that Cipla’s growing participation in multiple vaccine categories demonstrates its focus on addressing pressing public health challenges while improving health outcomes for children and communities.

Miller added that robust immunisation programmes remain one of the most effective ways to reduce preventable diseases, improve long-term public health, and narrow healthcare inequalities.

He noted that ensuring reliable vaccine availability and timely distribution remains critical to protecting vulnerable populations, particularly in underserved communities where access to healthcare services can still be inconsistent.

Cipla said its vaccine portfolio is supported by stringent quality standards and a strong emphasis on supply continuity, an area that has become increasingly important amid global concerns about medicine shortages and procurement disruptions.

Focus on local manufacturing and reliable supply

The latest vaccine tender award comes only months after Cipla reaffirmed its support for South Africa’s antiretroviral (ARV) supply programme following disruptions involving other suppliers in the country’s HIV treatment market.

Earlier this year, the company announced expanded local manufacturing capacity for ARV medicines, including increased tablet-filling capacity and investments to strengthen domestic pharmaceutical production.

Cipla has maintained a long-standing relationship with South Africa’s Department of Health through the supply of ARVs and vaccines under national healthcare programmes.

The company stated that its current focus remains on maintaining reliability, consistency, and responsible collaboration with the public sector.

In addition, Cipla South Africa continues to work with healthcare stakeholders on initiatives designed to improve vaccine awareness and reduce vaccine hesitancy.
