The facility will include inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services, neuro-rehabilitation units, addiction recovery programs, and specialized treatment areas for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and child and adolescent psychiatry.

UAE—Healthcare conglomerate Thumbay Group has officially broken ground on the Thumbay Psychiatric and Rehabilitation Hospital at Sharjah Healthcare City, marking a major expansion of specialized mental health and rehabilitation services in the UAE.
The 110,000-square-foot facility will feature 120 beds and is expected to become the region’s first fully integrated private hospital dedicated to psychiatric care, neuro-rehabilitation, and addiction recovery.
The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Dr. Abdelaziz Saeed Al Mheiri, Chairman of the Sharjah Health Authority and Sharjah Healthcare City, alongside Dr. Thumbay Moideen, senior healthcare officials, and executives from the Thumbay Group.
Expanding mental health and rehabilitation services
The new hospital aims to address the increasing demand for mental health and rehabilitation services across the UAE and the Gulf region.
Demand for specialized psychiatric treatment, addiction recovery programs, and neurological rehabilitation has risen sharply in recent years, while access to dedicated private facilities has remained limited.
According to Thumbay Group, the hospital has been purpose-built to deliver comprehensive and patient-centered care rather than adapting existing infrastructure.
The facility will include inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services, neuro-rehabilitation units, addiction recovery programs, and specialized treatment areas for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and child and adolescent psychiatry.
The campus will also feature VIP inpatient villas designed to provide privacy and long-term recovery support.
Additional amenities include a swimming pool, wellness and rehabilitation spaces, spa facilities, and the Thumbay Masjid, which will remain open to the public.
Furthermore, the hospital plans to pursue accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an internationally recognized benchmark for rehabilitation and behavioral health institutions.
Multidisciplinary and technology-Driven Care
Thumbay Group stated that the hospital will adopt a multidisciplinary treatment model that combines psychiatrists, psychologists, addiction counselors, occupational therapists, family therapists, and rehabilitation specialists under one system.
The organization also plans to integrate advanced therapeutic technologies, telehealth solutions, and precision medicine approaches into patient care.
Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Abdelaziz Saeed Al Mheiri said the project aligns with Sharjah’s broader healthcare vision of supporting all dimensions of human well-being.
He noted that mental health and rehabilitation services have long required dedicated infrastructure and specialized investment within the region.
Dr. Thumbay Moideen added that conversations around mental health have become increasingly urgent across families and communities in recent years.
He emphasized that the hospital has been designed around dignity, recovery, and measurable patient outcomes.
Thumbay Group expands specialized healthcare footprint
The psychiatric and rehabilitation hospital forms part of Thumbay Group’s wider healthcare expansion strategy across the UAE.
Recently, the group launched new advanced rehabilitation and hyperbaric oxygen therapy services at Thumbay Medicity and also announced the development of Thumbay Medicity Dubai, a large academic healthcare hub integrating research, education, and clinical care.
Construction of the Sharjah facility is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with operations expected to commence by mid-2027.
Once operational, the hospital will join Thumbay Group’s growing network of hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and academic institutions serving patients across the UAE and other international markets.
