Sidra Medicine receives ZEISS labs@location Recognition for advanced Imaging Excellence in Qatar

QATAR — Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, has officially earned designation as a ZEISS labs@location Reference Customer through its Advanced Imaging Core (AIC).

This recognition places the institution among a selective international network of research hospitals, academic medical centers, and core research facilities that demonstrate excellence in advanced microscopy and imaging technologies.

The ZEISS labs@location Program creates partnerships between ZEISS and leading laboratories worldwide.

Through this collaboration, ZEISS supports the development of innovative imaging applications, provides scientific training opportunities, enables expert demonstrations, and facilitates knowledge exchange among research communities worldwide.

To qualify for the designation, Sidra Medicine’s Advanced Imaging Core underwent a comprehensive evaluation.

Assessors examined the facility’s imaging capabilities, operational standards, scientific expertise, and proficiency in delivering high-level training and knowledge transfer.

The AIC impressed evaluators with its ability to tackle complex imaging applications, generate publication-quality research, and support collaborative scientific initiatives.

Recognition from institution leaders

Dr. Abbirami Sathappan, Lead of the Advanced Imaging Core at Sidra Medicine, expressed pride in the recognition.

According to Dr. Sathappan, the designation reflects the strength of the expertise, infrastructure, and collaborative culture that the team has developed within the AIC.

He emphasized that this recognition enhances their ability to equip researchers and clinicians with advanced imaging workflows that accelerate scientific discovery and contribute to research with genuine clinical relevance.

Prof. Khalid Fakhro, Chief Research Officer at Sidra Medicine, highlighted the institution’s unwavering commitment to building cutting-edge research platforms.

He explained that Sidra Medicine has consistently invested in state-of-the-art core research infrastructure, developed by visionary staff who ensure these capabilities directly benefit patient care.

Prof. Fakhro highlighted that the ZEISS designation reinforces Sidra Medicine’s mission to advance diagnostics and understanding of rare and complex diseases, ultimately enabling more precise treatment and improved patient outcomes.

Dr. Sara Tomei, Director of Integrated Genomic Services at Sidra Medicine, highlighted the competitive advantage the designation provides.

She noted that the recognition strengthens Sidra Medicine’s position when applying for peer-reviewed grants and pursuing international research collaborations, as it demonstrates institutional capability, technology leadership, and excellence in training.

Additionally, Dr. Tomei emphasized that the designation supports the development of local expertise by creating structured training pathways for clinicians, fellows, researchers, and technologists.
