The project will increase inpatient and outpatient capacity, upgrade existing departments and introduce new orthopaedic and physiotherapy services.

UAE—NMC Healthcare Group will invest AED 150 million (US$40.8 million) in new medical centres and hospital upgrades across Abu Dhabi to expand access to specialist care and increase treatment capacity.
The investment follows the launch of NMC’s corporate strategy a year ago, which focuses on portfolio expansion, asset optimisation, operational improvements and growth in clinical services.
The programme includes new facilities, expanded services and infrastructure upgrades across the group’s Abu Dhabi network.
Hospital upgrades and new medical centres
A key component is a multi-year redevelopment of Royal Hospital Khalifa City to improve patient experience and expand specialist services.
The project will increase inpatient and outpatient capacity, upgrade existing departments and introduce new orthopaedic and physiotherapy services.
NMC is also developing an urgent care centre at NMC Royal Hospital Abu Dhabi. Other initiatives include new clinics in Al Riyad City and Yas Mall, alongside a day care unit at NMC Specialty Hospital Abu Dhabi.
Several projects have already been delivered, including the two clinics, the day care unit and the NMC Mowj Child Development Medical Complex.
Established in partnership with the Zayed Authority for People of Determination and the National Academy for Childhood Development, the complex assesses children aged zero to eight for potential neurodevelopmental disabilities and serves as an autism treatment hub.
Five-year redevelopment programme
Over the next five years, Royal Hospital Khalifa City will undergo further redevelopment, including more than 20 additional inpatient beds and 20 outpatient consultation and treatment rooms.
The emergency department will also be expanded to accommodate more than 40 treatment bays.
The programme will upgrade maternity and paediatric services, VIP rooms and entrance areas.
It will also introduce dedicated orthopaedic and physiotherapy departments with separate gyms for male and female patients.
David Hadley, chief executive officer of NMC Healthcare, said the investment reflects the group’s commitment to bringing new services and facilities closer to communities across Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE.
He said the programme covers infrastructure upgrades, specialist care and improvements to the patient experience, with the aim of making healthcare more accessible to patients and their families.
Expanding capacity amid rising healthcare demand
The investment forms part of NMC’s broader effort to strengthen its healthcare network through additional capacity, expanded specialist services and modernised facilities.
For private healthcare providers in the UAE, investments in outpatient services, urgent care and specialised treatment can help address changing patient needs while improving access to care across growing urban communities.
NMC said the programme would support the UAE’s healthcare development priorities by expanding services and improving access to personalised care.
