UAE—Novo Nordisk has appointed Venkat Kalyan as General Manager for its Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) operations, strengthening its leadership team as the pharmaceutical company expands its focus on healthcare partnerships and patient care across the region.

Kalyan brings nearly 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, including 18 years with Novo Nordisk.

He most recently served as General Manager of the company’s Gulf Emerging Markets Cluster, where he gained extensive experience managing operations across diverse and rapidly evolving healthcare markets.

Extensive international leadership experience

Throughout his career, Kalyan has held leadership roles across several international markets, including India, Switzerland, Denmark, Middle Africa, South Africa, and the Gulf countries, according to a statement from the Danish healthcare company.

His broad experience across different healthcare systems and markets is expected to support his new responsibilities as Novo Nordisk continues to strengthen its presence in the Gulf region.

In his new role, Kalyan will oversee the company’s operations in the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Yemen.

He will focus on strengthening partnerships with healthcare stakeholders, supporting innovation, and improving health outcomes for people living with chronic diseases.

These efforts will form part of Novo Nordisk’s broader strategy to work with healthcare systems and partners across the region to address growing health challenges and improve access to patient care.

Focus on healthcare transformation

The appointment also reflects Novo Nordisk’s confidence in the continued development of the Gulf’s healthcare sector and the UAE’s growing position as a strategic hub for medical research, innovation and partnerships, the company said.

As healthcare systems across the region continue to evolve, the Gulf markets are becoming increasingly important to pharmaceutical companies seeking to expand access to innovative treatments and develop stronger collaborations with governments, healthcare providers and other stakeholders.

Commenting on his appointment, Kalyan said the Gulf markets have significant potential and are well positioned to lead the next phase of healthcare transformation.

He added that he looked forward to building on Novo Nordisk’s strong foundation in the region and working closely with healthcare stakeholders to improve patient outcomes.

Kalyan also highlighted the rapid evolution of healthcare across the Gulf, noting that the markets have become an integral part of Novo Nordisk’s global growth strategy.

Against this backdrop, the company plans to strengthen its impact across the region while supporting the development of accessible and sustainable patient care systems for local communities.

The appointment comes as Novo Nordisk continues to expand its engagement with healthcare systems worldwide, focusing on addressing chronic diseases and supporting initiatives to improve patient outcomes.

Under Kalyan’s leadership, the company will seek to deepen its partnerships across the six GCC markets while advancing its regional healthcare and innovation agenda.
