SKMCA Ajman secures Level 4 PSFHI accreditation in UAE

UAE—The Sheikh Khalifa Medical City—Ajman (SKMCA), overseen by The Medical Office under PureHealth, has secured Level 4 accreditation under the National Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative (PSFHI).

The programme is led by the Ministry of Health and Prevention in collaboration with the World Health Organization, and it represents the highest recognition within its patient safety framework.

The accreditation followed a detailed assessment of SKMCA’s clinical operations, governance systems, and facility standards.

Evaluators examined how the hospital manages patient care across multiple departments, including safety protocols, infection control, medication handling, and continuous quality improvement processes.

Strong commitment to patient safety and clinical excellence

Level 4 status is awarded only to hospitals that demonstrate organisation-wide excellence in patient safety and healthcare delivery.

At SKMCA, the evaluation confirmed strong adherence to international standards, particularly those aligned with the PSFHI framework developed by the Ministry of Health and Prevention of the UAE, in partnership with WHO.

The hospital’s leadership emphasized that the achievement reflects long-term investment in building a safety-driven healthcare culture.

Systems for monitoring patient outcomes, reporting incidents, and improving clinical practices were highlighted as key strengths during the assessment.

PSFHI framework and evaluation standards

The PSFHI programme evaluates hospitals using strict criteria covering leadership commitment, clinical safety practices, patient rights, infection prevention and control, medication safety, and ongoing quality improvement.

Hospitals are required to demonstrate not only compliance but also consistency in applying safety measures across all levels of care.

Achieving Level 4 status indicates that SKMCA has met the highest threshold in the programme, reflecting maturity in its healthcare systems and operational consistency.
