Insulet introduces Omnipod 5 insulin delivery system to Middle East markets

The Omnipod 5 System streamlines diabetes care through automated insulin adjustments every five minutes, eliminating the burden of multiple daily injections.

UAE—Insulet Corporation, the global leader in tubeless insulin pump technology, has launched its groundbreaking Omnipod 5 Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) System across the Middle East.

The company unveiled the technology in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the 16th edition of the Emirates Diabetes and Endocrine Congress (EDEC) in Dubai.

Addressing critical healthcare needs

Pat Crannell, Insulet’s Senior Vice President and International General Manager, emphasized the significance of bringing this technology to a region facing substantial unmet medical needs.

The launches demonstrate the company’s growing momentum as it works to transform diabetes care for patients worldwide.

Crannell highlighted that the introduction becomes even more impactful alongside Omnipod Discover, a newly launched platform that simplifies data management.

This dual release supports the company’s mission to create a world where diabetes demands less from patients every day.

Revolutionary technology for diabetes management

The Omnipod 5 System streamlines diabetes care through automated insulin adjustments every five minutes, eliminating the burden of multiple daily injections.

Clinical studies have shown strong outcomes, including improved time in range and reduced HbA1c levels, demonstrating the system’s effectiveness in maintaining healthy blood glucose levels.

The waterproof and discreet device represents the first tubeless AID system that communicates directly with a sensor.

The technology proactively corrects high blood sugar levels while protecting against dangerous lows throughout both day and night.

Patients can wear the device comfortably while going about their daily activities, including swimming and exercising.

Compatibility and availability

Healthcare providers can prescribe Omnipod 5 for individuals aged two years and older with type 1 diabetes.

The system integrates with the Abbott FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor and the Dexcom G7 sensor in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the UAE.

Qatar offers compatibility exclusively with the Dexcom G7 sensor.

Introducing Omnipod Discover

Insulet simultaneously launched Omnipod Discover, a proprietary analytics platform designed for Omnipod 5 users, their caregivers, and healthcare providers.

The web-based system transforms complex glucose and insulin delivery data into clear, actionable insights that inform treatment decisions.

The platform’s intuitive interface displays how the Omnipod 5 algorithm automates insulin delivery, enabling users to identify trends and make confident management choices.

Patients can access their health data in a simplified format that empowers them to better understand and control their condition.

The Middle East receives this platform first, with plans to expand to other Omnipod 5 markets globally.

Global expansion plans

The Middle East launch brings Omnipod 5’s availability to 19 countries worldwide. Insulet plans to enter Spain, a completely new market for the company, in 2026.

Greece and Croatia will follow during the first half of 2027.

Medical community response

Dr. Mohammed Almehthel, Medical Director and Diabetes Technology Section Head at the Obesity, Endocrinology and Metabolism Center at King Fahad Medical City in Saudi Arabia, welcomed the technology’s arrival.

He noted that patients living with type 1 diabetes throughout the Middle East have been eagerly awaiting such an innovative solution.

Dr. Almehthel explained that as regional diabetes care standards evolve to incorporate advanced technologies that improve patient outcomes, Omnipod 5 represents a significant advancement.

The system will transform daily life for many individuals and their families across the region.

Patient perspectives

Khalid Al Shethri from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, shared his enthusiasm about his nine-year-old daughter Yasmeen beginning treatment with Omnipod 5.

He described Yasmeen as a lively, brilliant girl who has had to think about diabetes every single day of her life.

Al Shethri expressed relief that as school becomes a bigger part of Yasmeen’s daily routine, the technology helps return a piece of her childhood.

The system allows her to feel freer and more confident as she navigates her education and social activities.
