Kenya strengthens health systems with Morocco through historic strategic partnership agreement

KENYA—Kenya and Morocco have formalized their commitment to transforming public health across both nations by signing a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding that covers 11 strategic sectors.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale signed the landmark agreement alongside other cabinet officials, signalling a crucial step in deepening bilateral cooperation between the East African nation and its North African counterpart.

Comprehensive health collaboration framework

The health partnership establishes a robust framework for knowledge sharing and technical collaboration designed to upgrade healthcare infrastructure and improve patient outcomes.

Both nations will work together to strengthen their health information systems through coordinated collection, analysis, and sharing of epidemiological data, scientific research findings, and public health intelligence.

Disease surveillance capabilities form a cornerstone of the agreement, enabling Kenya and Morocco to detect potential outbreaks rapidly and respond with coordinated preparedness measures.

This collaborative approach addresses communicable diseases with particular emphasis on controlling endemic illnesses and sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS.

The two countries commit to exchanging best practices from their respective national disease control strategies while simultaneously bolstering vaccination programs and care systems for vulnerable populations.

Pharmaceutical innovation and medicine access

Morocco’s Princess Lalla Asmaa Foundation previously demonstrated its commitment to Kenyan patients by donating 70 cochlear implants, transforming hearing health outcomes at Kenyatta National Hospital and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The signing ceremony brought together senior government officials from both nations.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi hosted Morocco’s delegation, led by Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita.

Kenya’s delegations included Cabinet Secretaries Hon. Julius Ogamba (Education) and Hon. Anne Cheptumo (Gender); Principal Secretaries Dr. Ouma Oluga (Medical Services), Dr. Beatrice Muganda (Higher Education and Research), and Betsy Njagi (Blue Economy), among other dignitaries.
