MEDEXPO AFRICA 2026 opens in Nairobi

KENYA—MEDEXPO AFRICA 2026 has officially opened in Nairobi, bringing together industry leaders, manufacturers, policymakers, and innovators to showcase emerging medical technologies.

The three-day international exhibition, taking place from April 22 to 24 at the Sarit Expo Centre, has attracted participants from across Africa and beyond, reflecting growing regional demand for advanced healthcare solutions.

During the opening ceremony, Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr Ouma Oluga, highlighted the importance of collaboration in transforming healthcare delivery.

He noted that the event provides a critical platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, explore partnerships, and identify solutions that can improve access to quality care.

At the same time, exhibitors are presenting a wide range of medical equipment, diagnostics, and healthcare innovations designed to address evolving patient needs.

Aligning innovation, trade, and healthcare

In his address, Dr Oluga stressed the need to better align medical technology, trade and innovation to achieve more affordable and efficient healthcare systems.

He explained that stronger integration across these sectors can significantly reduce the cost of care while improving service delivery, particularly for underserved populations.

“We must deliberately align medical technology, trade, and innovation if we are to deliver affordable, efficient, and accessible healthcare for all,” he said.

He added that coordinated efforts across these areas will help bridge existing gaps in healthcare access while supporting the adoption of modern solutions.

Furthermore, Dr Oluga pointed out that innovation alone is not sufficient without supportive trade frameworks and policies.

He emphasised that governments and private sector players must work together to ensure that new technologies reach the populations that need them most.

Strengthening health systems and investment

Dr Oluga also underscored the role of strong health systems in driving economic growth.

He stated that investing in resilient and cost-effective healthcare solutions is essential not only for improving patient outcomes but also for supporting national development.

“A strong health system is not just a social good; it is a critical driver of economic growth,” he said, while calling for sustained investment in sustainable healthcare infrastructure and services.

In addition, he encouraged stakeholders to prioritise innovations that enhance system resilience and long-term efficiency.
