Fakeeh University Hospital earns Global BFHI accreditation for maternal excellence

UAE—Fakeeh University Hospital has received accreditation under the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), a globally recognized program supported by the World Health Organization and United Nations Children’s Fund.

The recognition was officially granted by the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention’s Public Health and Prevention Department, highlighting the hospital’s commitment to high-quality maternal and newborn healthcare.

Recognition for family-centered maternity care

The BFHI accreditation ranks among the most respected international standards in maternity and neonatal healthcare.

It recognizes hospitals that successfully implement evidence-based practices supporting breastfeeding, maternal wellbeing, newborn nutrition, and family-centered care.

To achieve the accreditation, Fakeeh University Hospital adopted the internationally recognized “Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding” framework developed by WHO and UNICEF.

The framework promotes breastfeeding education, early mother-baby bonding, and continuous support for mothers throughout pregnancy, delivery, and postnatal care.

The hospital also strengthened its maternity services by encouraging immediate skin-to-skin contact after birth, a practice known to improve newborn health outcomes and strengthen maternal bonding.

In addition, multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, midwives, lactation consultants, and clinical support staff, collaborated closely to ensure mothers and newborns receive safe, personalized, and compassionate care from the start of their healthcare journey.

Leadership highlights commitment to patient experience

Commenting on the achievement, Mohaymen Abdelghany, Group CEO of Fakeeh Health and CEO of Fakeeh University Hospital, described the accreditation as an important milestone for the organization.

He said the recognition reflects the hospital’s commitment to delivering a supportive and reassuring environment for mothers and families, while maintaining international standards in maternity and neonatal care.

He also credited the hospital’s physicians, nurses, midwives, and multidisciplinary teams for their role in achieving the accreditation through continuous collaboration and patient-focused care.

Beyond childbirth services, the hospital continues to provide lactation counseling, maternal education programs, and postnatal support aimed at helping families transition confidently into parenthood.

Expanding global recognition

The BFHI accreditation adds to a growing list of international recognitions earned by Fakeeh University Hospital and the wider Fakeeh Health network in recent months.

The hospital was recently listed among Newsweek’s World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2026 for its advances in digital healthcare transformation, including artificial intelligence, robotic surgery, and integrated electronic medical records systems.

In addition, Fakeeh University Hospital achieved HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 recognition, becoming one of the UAE’s leading digitally mature hospitals with fully integrated paperless clinical systems.
