USA— Stryker has announced the U.S. commercial launch of the Mako RPS® (Robotic Power System) for total knee replacement, expanding its Mako portfolio into a new category of orthopaedic robotics.
The launch introduces the Mako Handheld Robotics platform, complementing the company’s Mako SmartRobotics™ with Mako 4 robotic-arm assisted system and broadening the range of robotic solutions available to orthopaedic surgeons.
Expanding the Mako Robotics Portfolio
The new system reflects Stryker’s strategy of offering surgeons greater flexibility in adopting robotic-assisted technology for joint replacement procedures.

Keith Evans, Vice President and General Manager of Stryker’s Mako and Enabling Technologies business, said customer feedback during the limited market release exceeded expectations.
He noted that the company continues to expand the Mako portfolio while setting a new benchmark for handheld robotic technology by combining robotics, power-tool expertise, and a deep understanding of surgical workflows.
Designed Around Familiar Surgical Workflows
As healthcare providers increasingly look for flexible ways to integrate robotics into orthopaedic procedures, Mako RPS offers a solution that combines robotic precision with a familiar surgical experience.
The system enables surgeons to incorporate robotic assistance without dramatically altering their preferred techniques or operating room workflows.
Mako RPS is compatible with Stryker’s clinically proven Triathlon® Total Knee System and incorporates intraoperative planning capabilities, along with a robotically enabled surgical saw.
The saw features Stryker’s patented active adjustment technology, which continuously responds to the surgeon’s hand movements while helping maintain alignment with the pre-operative surgical plan in real time.
Unlike conventional robotic systems that rely on cutting blocks, Mako RPS allows surgeons to perform bone preparation using a familiar cutting technique while still benefiting from robotic guidance.
This design aims to simplify adoption for surgeons interested in transitioning to robotic-assisted procedures.
Strengthening Stryker’s orthopaedic technology ecosystem
Lisa Kloes, Vice President and General Manager of Stryker’s Knee business, said the combination of robotic technology with the Triathlon Total Knee System provides an intuitive surgical experience built on workflows and implants that surgeons already know and trust.
The system also integrates with Stryker’s Q Guidance System, the company’s multi-specialty surgical navigation platform, further expanding its ecosystem of enabling technologies across different orthopaedic procedures and care settings.
For more than 20 years, the Mako platform has remained a leading name in orthopaedic robotics.
To date, surgeons have performed more than 2.5 million Mako-assisted procedures in 47 countries, highlighting the platform’s global adoption and its growing role in supporting personalised joint replacement surgery.
