MedLab opens advanced surgical training facility at Dubai Science Park

UAE—MedLab Training Institute has opened a new surgical training facility at Dubai Science Park, part of TECOM Group, marking a significant step in expanding practical medical education in the region.

The institute, which specializes in cadaveric and simulation-based surgical training, designed the centre to provide healthcare professionals with immersive, skills-focused learning in a controlled clinical environment.

Rising demand for practical clinical training

The launch comes as demand for advanced, hands-on surgical training grows across the Middle East, enabling clinicians to refine procedural skills and adopt modern techniques.

Healthcare systems in the region continue to prioritize continuous professional development, especially in complex surgical disciplines where precision and experience are critical to patient outcomes.

Training capacity and programme structure

The facility is built to accommodate approximately 1,000 to 1,500 healthcare professionals each year, including consultants, specialists, and early-career doctors.

Training programmes run by MedLab bring together international faculty, regional experts, and healthcare industry partners to provide exposure to diverse surgical approaches.

Most courses are delivered over one to three days, with intensive practical sessions lasting up to eight hours daily, allowing participants to build competence through repetition and guided practice.

Advanced learning environment and disciplines covered

The centre features cadaveric laboratories, high-definition audiovisual systems for live demonstrations, and dedicated teaching spaces that support experiential learning.

Cadaver-based training remains central to the institute’s approach, enabling clinicians to work with real human anatomy under expert supervision.

The programmes span orthopaedics, spine surgery, sports medicine, maxillofacial procedures, and reconstructive surgery, among other specialties, and include certification where applicable under relevant regulatory frameworks.

Speaking at the launch, Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, Senior Vice President of TECOM Group, said the new facility strengthens the UAE’s position as a growing hub for healthcare and life sciences innovation.

He noted that practical training environments like this directly improve clinical capabilities and support better patient care outcomes across the region.

 He also welcomed MedLab into the ecosystem, aligning the initiative with national long-term development strategies.

Dr. Bilal El-Yafawi, Chief Executive Officer of MedLab Training Institute, said the centre was established to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world surgical practice through structured, hands-on education.

He added that the facility would serve as an enabler for continuous professional development across regional healthcare systems.

In recent months, MedLab has also indicated plans to broaden its training portfolio and strengthen collaborations with hospitals, universities, and industry partners, aiming to expand participation and programme diversity over the next few years as demand for specialized surgical training continues to grow.
