Philips debuts Alturion ultrasound system for high-volume clinical workloads

Philips developed Alturion to simplify routine ultrasound examinations without compromising image quality.

THE NETHERLANDS — Royal Philips has unveiled the Alturion ultrasound system, a new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered imaging platform designed to help healthcare providers manage growing patient volumes while maintaining consistent diagnostic quality.

The system is now available across the United States and Europe after receiving FDA 510(k) clearance and CE mark certification.

The launch expands Philips’ diagnostic ultrasound portfolio at a time when hospitals and imaging departments face mounting pressure from rising patient demand, workforce shortages, and increasingly complex clinical workloads.

By combining advanced imaging with AI-assisted workflows, Alturion aims to reduce examination time while helping clinicians make confident diagnostic decisions.

Designed for high-volume healthcare environments

Philips developed Alturion to simplify routine ultrasound examinations without compromising image quality.

The system features a powerful processing architecture that delivers fast performance and clear visualisation across a wide range of patients and examination types.

Its compact design and 24-inch display make it easy to move between hospital departments or use at the patient’s bedside.

The streamlined interface also reduces the number of manual adjustments required during scans, allowing sonographers to complete examinations more efficiently while maintaining consistent workflows across care teams.

He added that Alturion was created to help healthcare providers deliver high-quality care with greater efficiency and confidence.

AI tools improve workflow and consistency

Alturion is the latest Philips ultrasound platform to feature Elevate Plus, which provides AI-powered measurements for abdominal ultrasound examinations.

The software automates several routine tasks, including image acquisition and measurements, helping reduce variability between operators while improving workflow efficiency.

The AI-enabled capabilities also support reproducible results, making it easier for clinicians to compare findings and make informed treatment decisions.

These tools can save valuable time, particularly in facilities handling large numbers of patients each day.

Part of Philips’ connected ultrasound ecosystem

The new platform integrates with Philips’ wider ultrasound ecosystem through a shared user interface and interchangeable transducers compatible with the company’s EPIQ Elite and Affiniti systems.

This allows healthcare organisations to use the same probes across multiple ultrasound platforms, reducing training requirements and simplifying staff onboarding.

Alturion also supports Philips’ Collaboration Live tele-ultrasound technology, enabling clinicians in different locations to connect in real time for remote consultations, training, and clinical support.

The upgradeable platform gives hospitals greater flexibility as imaging needs evolve.

The launch follows Philips’ continued investment in AI-enabled diagnostic technologies to improve clinical productivity and expand access to advanced imaging across healthcare settings.
