Fakeeh Health secures UAE accreditation for postgraduate medical training

UAE – Fakeeh Health has received Institutional Accreditation from the National Institute for Health Specialties (NIHS), becoming the first private health system in Dubai to achieve the recognition and strengthening its role in postgraduate medical education in the UAE.

Dr Mohammed Al Houqani, Secretary General of NIHS, presented the accreditation certificate to Fakeeh University Hospital (FUH).

He said the recognition demonstrated the hospital’s compliance with national standards for postgraduate medical education (PGME) and highlighted the contribution of academic hospitals to healthcare workforce development.

The accreditation covers Fakeeh Health, including FUH and its network of Fakeeh Medical Centers, and recognizes the organization as an approved institution for PGME training in the UAE.

It follows the successful accreditation of FUH’s Medical Internship Program.

NIHS is the UAE’s national authority responsible for regulating and accrediting postgraduate medical education and residency training.

Its institutional accreditation process assesses educational governance, faculty development, resident support, patient safety, clinical learning environments, quality improvement and competency-based medical education.

Expanding postgraduate medical education

The accreditation process evaluated Fakeeh Health’s educational framework, including institutional leadership, faculty engagement, resident wellbeing, assessment systems, research opportunities, simulation-based education and clinical training.

Fakeeh Health launched its postgraduate medical education programs in collaboration with the Dubai Health Authority in 2021.

Since then, it has expanded its academic portfolio through residency and internship programs, competency-based training, faculty development and simulation-enhanced learning.

Residents train across FUH and Fakeeh Medical Centers, gaining exposure to primary, secondary and tertiary care while working in patient-centred environments that emphasize teamwork, innovation and evidence-based practice.

Dr Mazen Fakeeh, Chairman of Fakeeh Health, said the organization viewed investment in healthcare professionals as essential to the future of the sector.

He added that Fakeeh Health would continue expanding its academic programs, strengthening clinical training and creating opportunities for future healthcare professionals.

Dr Mazen Abou Chaaban, Designated Institutional Official, said the accreditation validated the organization’s educational governance, faculty engagement and learning culture.

He added that Fakeeh Health aimed to develop competent specialists and compassionate physicians committed to lifelong learning, professionalism and patient-centred care.

Fakeeh Health also thanked NIHS for its guidance during the accreditation process and acknowledged the contribution of its physicians, educators, administrators and support teams.

The organization plans to expand its residency and postgraduate medical education programs while strengthening academic collaborations, research and innovation across its healthcare network.
