Neurodiversity remains a central focus, particularly in identifying autism and ADHD in girls, women, and high-achieving adults who often mask symptoms for years before receiving support.

UAE—Uniquely You Mental Health Center has opened in Dubai as the UAE’s first publicly neurodivergent-owned and operated mental health clinic.
The center was founded by Elaine Maichin, an American neurodivergent, CDA-licensed psychologist, US-licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and trauma therapist.
It introduces a neurodiversity-affirming approach to mental healthcare for adolescents, adults, and families.
The clinic serves clients aged 13 to 60 and above, offering support across healthcare, education, and workplace settings.
Its launch comes as mental wellbeing continues to gain attention in the UAE, where residents increasingly prioritise psychological health alongside physical wellbeing.
Neurodiversity-affirming approach to care
The center adopts a neurodiversity-affirming model that recognises differences in how people think, process emotions, and interact with the world.
It blends evidence-based therapy with trauma-informed care and culturally responsive practice to ensure clients feel understood rather than defined by diagnoses.
Elaine Maichin noted that although mental health awareness in the UAE has improved, many individuals still seek spaces that offer deeper understanding and acceptance.
She emphasised that neurodiversity represents natural human variation rather than something that needs correction.
Addressing everyday and complex mental health needs
The clinic supports individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, self-esteem concerns, parenting stress, and major life transitions.
It also provides care for expatriates and multicultural communities navigating relocation, loneliness, and limited support networks.

Services and personalised care model
Uniquely You Mental Health Center offers individual psychotherapy, family therapy, autism and ADHD assessments, dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) skills groups, workshops, training programs, and structured support groups.
Each service follows a structured care plan developed during an initial consultation, which defines goals and therapeutic direction.
The center also supports individuals with dyslexia, dyspraxia, dysgraphia, and other neurotypes, helping them build self-awareness, communication skills, and daily coping strategies.
Mental health context in the UAE
Mental health demand continues to rise in the UAE, supported by national initiatives such as the Dubai Health Authority’s Mental Wealth Framework, valued at AED 105 million (US$28.6 million), which focuses on early intervention, prevention, and community-based care.
Recent developments in Dubai and Abu Dhabi have also highlighted growing investment in workplace wellbeing programmes and neurodiversity inclusion initiatives, reflecting a wider shift toward more accessible and inclusive mental health services across the region.
Expansion and future plans
Uniquely You Mental Health Center has already partnered with organisations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi to promote mental health awareness and employee wellbeing.
The center plans to expand its clinical team and broaden access to specialised services over time, with a long-term vision that includes trauma-informed care, school partnerships, workplace wellbeing programmes, crisis support, and community education initiatives.
