Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare secures ANCC Magnet Recognition with Distinction

SAUDI ARABIA— Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) has received Magnet Recognition® with Distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), placing the healthcare provider among a select group of organizations recognized globally for nursing excellence, quality of care and patient outcomes.
JHAH is now one of only five organizations outside the United States to hold Magnet Recognition with Distinction.
The recognition covers all five JHAH campuses in Dhahran, Ras Tanura, Al Hasa, Abqaiq and Udhailiah.
The achievement also makes JHAH the only hospital system outside the United States to secure the distinction through a single, unified appraisal covering multiple hospitals and sites.
Three ANCC distinctions
JHAH is also the only organization worldwide to simultaneously hold three ANCC distinctions: Magnet Recognition®, Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP) Accreditation and Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD) Accreditation.
ANCC awards Magnet Recognition to organizations that demonstrate high standards in nursing practice, leadership, professional development, quality improvement and patient care.
Magnet Recognition with Distinction is awarded to organizations that exceed the standards required for Magnet designation.
JHAH achieved the recognition on its first application and received it for a four year term.
Dr. Howard Podolsky, Chief Executive Officer of JHAH, said the achievement recognizes the contribution of the organization’s nurses and the colleagues who support them.
He said the result reflects the standard of excellence established across JHAH and the strength of its partnership between Saudi Aramco and Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Collaboration with Johns Hopkins Medicine
JHAH began its Magnet Recognition Program® journey with structured support from Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) in 2022.
JHM experts worked with JHAH’s nursing leadership throughout the process, providing specialist guidance, onsite workshops, observership opportunities and a comprehensive mock Magnet assessment.
The collaboration also included ongoing expert reviews as JHAH prepared for the formal ANCC appraisal.
The assessment examined eight consecutive quarters of unit-level clinical and patient experience data across JHAH’s inpatient and ambulatory services.
JHAH outperformed international benchmarks and comparison groups on 100 per cent of eligible inpatient units for stage two and above hospital-acquired pressure injuries, device-related pressure injuries and peripheral intravenous infiltrations.
In ambulatory settings, JHAH exceeded benchmarks across 100 percent of eligible units for falls with injury, patient burns and surgical errors.
Investment in nursing
Dr. Hani Ayyad, Chief Nursing Officer at JHAH, said the recognition reflects the expertise, leadership and commitment of the organization’s nurses.
He said JHAH will focus on maintaining its standards, developing nursing talent and improving care for patients and communities.
Saudi nationals account for 23 percent of JHAH’s approximately 1,600 nurses.
The organization continues to develop its nursing workforce through professional development, transition to practice programs and international knowledge exchange.
