KENYA — Crown Healthcare has inaugurated a syringe manufacturing plant in Kenya to expand local production of essential medical supplies and support healthcare supply chain resilience.

Expanding local medical device production
The new plant is designed to manufacture syringes locally at scale, according to Crown Healthcare.
The company said the facility combines modern manufacturing technology with high-capacity production processes, although it did not disclose the plant’s production capacity or investment value.
The launch comes as manufacturers and healthcare stakeholders continue to focus on strengthening local supply chains for essential medical products.
Local production can reduce reliance on imported supplies, while also creating opportunities for skills development, employment and investment across the medical manufacturing sector.
Crown Healthcare has operated in the healthcare sector for nearly three decades.
The company said the new facility forms part of its efforts to expand its manufacturing activities and bring production of selected healthcare products closer to the markets it serves.
Industry and supply chain implications
Syringes are widely used across healthcare facilities for vaccination, medication administration, blood collection, and other clinical procedures.
Maintaining reliable access to these products is therefore an important component of healthcare supply management.
Momina Ali Sheikh, Chief Operating Officer at Crown Healthcare, said the facility represents a step towards increasing local manufacturing capacity and strengthening the supply of essential medical products in the region.
She added that the plant brings together technology, manufacturing processes and production capacity to support local syringe production.
According to Sheikh, the investment could also contribute to job creation and the development of Kenya’s healthcare manufacturing capabilities.
The company did not provide details on the number of jobs expected to be created, the markets targeted for exports, or the proportion of its syringe output intended for domestic consumption.
Building manufacturing capacity
The inauguration brought together members of the Crown Healthcare team and other stakeholders to mark the facility’s opening.
The company said the development reflects its continued focus on manufacturing and healthcare solutions.
The plant adds to Kenya’s growing medical manufacturing base and provides additional domestic capacity to produce a commonly used medical device.
