KENYA—Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has launched a renovated Casting Room at its International Trauma Center (ITC) in Nairobi to improve fracture management and strengthen orthopaedic services for trauma patients.
The renovation was completed through a partnership with medical supplies distributor Surgipharm Ltd and healthcare products company BSN-ESSITY, which supported the facility’s transformation into a modern treatment environment.
Speaking at the launch, KNH Chief Executive Officer Dr Richard Lesiyampe said the upgraded facility would improve service delivery for the thousands of patients the hospital treats for trauma and fractures each year.
He added that the Casting Room would also support the training of healthcare professionals from Kenya and other countries.
Lesiyampe urged clinical teams to maintain strict safety protocols at the International Trauma Center to protect patients and healthcare workers.
Strengthening orthopaedic services and clinical training
The upgraded Casting Room is intended to support the hospital’s management of fractures and other orthopaedic injuries.
Modernising specialised treatment areas can help referral hospitals improve clinical workflows, maintain appropriate safety standards, and support specialised care delivery.
As a major referral facility, KNH manages patients who require specialised treatment for injuries and other complex medical conditions.
Investments in its trauma infrastructure therefore support the hospital’s efforts to strengthen service capacity and clinical training.
The partnership with Surgipharm Ltd and BSN-ESSITY highlights the role of collaboration between healthcare providers and medical industry partners in upgrading treatment facilities.
Such partnerships can help hospitals improve their clinical environments and access products and expertise needed to support patient care.
KNH acknowledged the contribution of both companies and its clinical teams to the renovation.
