Medcare becomes first UAE healthcare provider to deploy InterSystems IntelliCare EHR

UAE—Medcare Hospitals and Medical Centres, the premium healthcare arm of Aster DM Healthcare, has signed a strategic partnership with InterSystems to deploy InterSystems IntelliCare™, becoming the first healthcare provider in the UAE and the wider region to implement a next-generation, AI-first electronic health record (EHR) platform.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Alisha Moopen, Managing Director and Group CEO of Aster DM Healthcare, and Ali Abi Raad, Managing Director of InterSystems Middle East, India and South Africa, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.

AI embedded at the core of clinical care

While many healthcare providers have introduced artificial intelligence through standalone applications, diagnostic tools, and workflow automation solutions, Medcare’s adoption of IntelliCare marks a significant shift towards a fully integrated AI-powered healthcare ecosystem.

Unlike conventional EHR systems that add AI as an extra feature, IntelliCare places artificial intelligence at the centre of the clinical workflow.

The platform is designed to streamline operations, improve interoperability across hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and insurers, and reduce the administrative burden on healthcare professionals.

The move forms part of Medcare’s broader digital transformation strategy and reinforces its commitment to improving clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and patient-centred care.

Alisha Moopen said the organisation has consistently invested in advanced technologies that enable physicians and caregivers to prioritise patients and deliver better outcomes.

She noted that adopting an AI-first EHR platform represents a major step towards transforming healthcare delivery.

According to Moopen, intelligent systems will increasingly support healthcare professionals by reducing paperwork, generating meaningful insights, and allowing more time for patient care.

Supporting physicians through intelligent automation

The IntelliCare platform will help clinicians access patient information more efficiently while automating clinical documentation.

Using AI-powered information retrieval, natural language interaction, and ambient documentation capabilities, physicians will be able to review diagnoses, medications, test results, procedures, and clinical notes more quickly.

Future versions of the platform will incorporate agentic AI technologies capable of supporting clinical decision-making and workflow management.

These AI assistants will operate alongside healthcare professionals while maintaining human oversight.

Ali Abi Raad said the latest agreement builds on a partnership that began in 2020 when Medcare adopted the InterSystems TrakCare platform as part of its digital transformation programme.

He described the transition to IntelliCare as the next stage in Medcare’s innovation journey and a sign of the growing relationship between InterSystems and Aster DM Healthcare.

Enhanced Experience for Patients

For patients, the platform is expected to create a more seamless healthcare experience. By reducing time spent on documentation, physicians can devote greater attention to consultations and personalised care.

Access to a unified patient record will also support more informed treatment decisions, better continuity of care, and fewer duplicated tests.

Dr. Shanila Laiju, Group CEO of Medcare Hospitals and Medical Centres, said artificial intelligence is reshaping healthcare globally and that Medcare is committed to ensuring both patients and clinicians benefit from these advances.

She explained that embedding intelligence directly into the clinical ecosystem will help physicians access insights faster, streamline workflows, and spend more time interacting with patients.

The announcement comes as Aster DM Healthcare accelerates its digital transformation and expansion plans across the UAE.

Earlier this year, the group unveiled projects worth AED 1 billion (US$272 million), including two new hospitals in Dubai, an advanced robotic rehabilitation centre, Sharjah’s first private multi-organ transplant centre, and expanded AI-enabled healthcare initiatives.

Since its launch in 2025, IntelliCare has gained international traction, with deployments across eight hospitals operated by Indonesia’s EMC Healthcare.

The platform is also the first unified AI-powered EHR system to receive EU Class IIa Medical Device Regulation certification for clinical safety.
