The three year, board recognised SEHA National Fellowship Programme provides practical training in clinical care, fertility surgery, research and leadership within SEHA’s integrated fertility services.

UAE—PureHealth has launched a national fellowship in reproductive medicine and surgery at SEHA Tawam Fertility Centre in Al Ain and SEHA Corniche Fertility Centre in Abu Dhabi to develop Emirati specialists in fertility treatment and reproductive healthcare.
The three-year board-recognized SEHA National Fellowship Programme provides practical training in clinical care, fertility surgery, research and leadership within SEHA’s integrated fertility services.
Designed exclusively for Emirati physicians, the programme prepares fellows to manage infertility and deliver specialised reproductive care in the UAE.
The fellowship has received joint accreditation from the National Institute for Health Specialties and the Department of Health Abu Dhabi.
According to PureHealth, it is the first reproductive medicine fellowship in the UAE for Emirati physicians to receive accreditation from both bodies.
Graduates will be eligible for licensing as specialists in reproductive medicine and infertility in the country.
Building specialist capacity in fertility care
The programme combines supervised clinical practice with surgical training and research, giving fellows experience across different aspects of reproductive medicine.
It also introduces research initiatives focused on precision medicine, including the use of population specific genomic insights relevant to the UAE.
This approach reflects the growing role of specialised training in healthcare workforce planning.
As fertility treatment advances, healthcare systems require physicians who can apply evolving clinical techniques, interpret emerging research and adapt care to patients’ needs.
Saeed Jaber Mohd Al Kuwaiti, Group Chief Executive Officer of SEHA, said developing national clinical expertise was important to the UAE’s long term healthcare resilience.
He said the programme would strengthen subspecialty training for Emirati physicians while supporting the development of a domestic specialist workforce.
Training within SEHA’s fertility centres would also help the organisation respond to the growing global challenge of infertility and support Abu Dhabi’s ambitions in fertility treatment, research and medical education.
Supporting national health and family priorities
Dr Fatima Al Shalabi initiated the fellowship accreditation process.
She is an alumna of the Emirati Women Chapter, PureHealth’s national leadership platform established in collaboration with the General Women’s Union under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the Mother of the Nation.
The programme aligns with the UAE’s Mother of the Nation 50:50 Vision, which includes priorities related to fertility outcomes, maternal and neonatal health, population growth and family wellbeing.
It also supports Abu Dhabi’s Family Wellbeing Strategy and the National Family Growth Agenda 2031.
These priorities place reproductive health services within a broader policy focus on family health and sustainable population development.
Dr Salma Salem Al Ameri, Acting Chief Medical Officer and Consultant Physician at SEHA Fertility Centers, said the programme integrates specialist education with patient care.
She explained that fellows would train within a system connecting genetics, assisted reproduction, maternity and neonatal services.
This exposure is intended to develop both technical competence and the clinical judgement required to manage complex fertility cases.
Al Ameri added that infertility can involve emotional and psychological challenges as well as medical concerns.
The programme will prepare Emirati specialists to provide advanced treatment while supporting couples throughout their care.
Extending SEHA’s reproductive medicine expertise
SEHA fertility centres have more than 35 years of experience in reproductive medicine and have recorded over 7,000 births, according to PureHealth.
The new fellowship builds on this clinical experience by establishing a structured pathway for training Emirati reproductive medicine specialists.
It also strengthens PureHealth’s investment in specialist medical education, with research and clinical training intended to support the development of locally based expertise in assisted reproduction.
