Aster DM Healthcare expands Saudi Footprint with acquisition of ProCare Hospital in Eastern Province

SAUDI ARABIA—Aster DM Healthcare has strengthened its presence in Saudi Arabia through the acquisition of a majority stake in ProCare Hospital in the Eastern Province, in partnership with Abdulrahman Saleh Al Rajhi and Partners Co. Group.

Following the transaction, the facility will operate as Aster ProCare Hospital, becoming part of Aster’s growing healthcare network across the Gulf region.

The move marks a significant step in Aster’s long-term strategy to expand its healthcare footprint in the Kingdom while supporting the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

It also builds on the company’s presence in Saudi Arabia, where it has been operating since 2011 through Aster Sanad Hospital in Riyadh.

Expansion plans to double capacity

Founded in 2009, ProCare Hospital is a multi-specialty healthcare facility providing primary and secondary care services to communities in the Eastern Province.

Under Aster’s management, the hospital will adopt the group’s integrated healthcare model, global quality standards, and patient-centred approach to care.

A key component of the investment involves expanding the hospital’s licensed capacity from 100 beds to 209 beds.

The expansion will include 60 critical care beds and seven operating theatres, alongside the introduction of new specialties, advanced medical technologies, and enhanced clinical services.

The hospital is also set to establish a state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) in collaboration with Philips.

The facility will incorporate AI-enabled technologies designed to strengthen cardiac and neurological care while improving diagnostic and treatment capabilities.

In addition, Aster plans to modernize emergency services, upgrade hospital infrastructure, and introduce digital health solutions through its myAster platform to improve access to care and continuity of treatment for patients.

Leadership highlights strategic importance

Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, described the acquisition as another important milestone in the company’s commitment to Saudi Arabia.

He noted that Aster has served patients in the Kingdom for more than a decade and views the expansion as a reflection of its confidence in the country’s healthcare transformation under Vision 2030.

According to Dr. Moopen, the company aims to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, expand clinical capabilities, and integrate international best practices to improve access to high-quality healthcare services across the Kingdom.

She added that Aster intends to expand services, introduce advanced specialties, and enhance the overall patient experience while supporting national efforts to improve healthcare quality and accessibility.

Broader regional growth strategy

The Saudi expansion comes as Aster DM Healthcare continues to pursue ambitious growth plans across the Gulf region.

Earlier this year, the company announced investments worth AED 1 billion (US$272 million) in the UAE, including new hospitals, expanded specialty services, and digital healthcare initiatives.

The group has also committed approximately US$250 million toward expanding hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and digital health services in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Aster is advancing its global growth strategy through its planned merger with Quality Care India, a move expected to create one of India’s largest hospital networks with more than 10,600 beds across 39 hospitals.

Aster ProCare Hospital currently offers a wide range of services, including medical and surgical care, women’s and children’s health, cardiology, orthopaedics, emergency medicine, diagnostics, and allied health services.

The integration into Aster’s network is expected to enhance these capabilities while expanding access to advanced healthcare services for residents across Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.
