The curriculum gives healthcare professionals the tools they need to balance clinical excellence with strategic business thinking, preparing them to tackle both current challenges and future opportunities.

UAE—PureHealth, the Middle East’s largest healthcare group, has partnered with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) to launch an innovative Healthcare Mini MBA programme based in the UAE.

The initiative aims to strengthen healthcare leadership across the Emirates by combining world-class academic training with real-world operational expertise.

The programme recently celebrated its first milestone as 30 healthcare professionals from PureHealth and the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) completed the inaugural cohort.

These participants spent three months developing critical skills in business acumen, leadership, and operational excellence—all designed to drive meaningful transformation in the healthcare sector.

A curriculum designed for modern healthcare

The Healthcare Mini MBA brings together RCSI’s internationally recognized academic standards with PureHealth’s hands-on industry knowledge.

This unique blend creates a learning experience specifically tailored to address the challenges and opportunities within the UAE’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.

Over three months, participants worked through five focused modules covering essential topics: global healthcare context, personal leadership, leading change, digital transformation, and operational excellence.

The curriculum gives healthcare professionals the tools they need to balance clinical excellence with strategic business thinking, preparing them to tackle both current challenges and future opportunities.

Leadership through learning and innovation

Shaista Asif, Group Chief Executive Officer of PureHealth, emphasized that today’s healthcare leaders must embrace continuous learning, adaptation, and innovation.

She expressed pride in collaborating with RCSI on this programme, describing it as a reflection of PureHealth’s core belief that building a resilient healthcare system starts with investing in people.

Asif explained that the programme equips the workforce with global best practices while keeping local needs in focus.

This approach empowers leaders with the knowledge, agility, and vision needed to shape healthcare’s future in the UAE and beyond.

Combining strategic vision with clinical excellence

Professor Deborah McNamara, President of RCSI, shared her enthusiasm about partnering with PureHealth on this groundbreaking initiative.

She described the Healthcare Mini MBA as a programme that redefines healthcare leadership in the region by merging strategic insight with clinical expertise.

McNamara noted that this combination empowers professionals to reflect, innovate, and lead transformative change across the entire healthcare system.

Flexible learning for working professionals

The programme uses a hybrid delivery format designed to accommodate busy healthcare professionals.

It kicked off with an in-person residency, followed by a mix of virtual sessions and local delivery for subsequent modules.

Faculty members from both RCSI and PureHealth brought their academic expertise and practical leadership experience to ensure the content remained relevant and impactful for working professionals.

Looking ahead

The successful completion of this first cohort represents a significant step forward in advancing healthcare leadership throughout the UAE.

Participants emerged from the five comprehensive modules with enhanced skills, fresh perspectives, and the confidence to lead effectively in a rapidly changing healthcare environment.

Building on this success, the programme will now run biannually, creating ongoing opportunities to develop healthcare leadership talent across the region.
